Often when we go single into double, dancers give far too much force with the single, losing control of their turnout and therefor do a messy double because fundamentally their preparation from the single was effrontery enough and then the “impressive” double turn suffers. Think of the first single with very little force along with a sensation of it’s just a hold, a pull up. Then after which, tombé turned out with a good prep, you can then give lots of force going into the double with effeocnt maintenance of shoulders being square to the direction your going and holding turnout of two legs. She is widely recognized as the founding Artistic Director of the Louisiana Dance Foundation and Louisiana Dance Theatre, an esteemed dance company that performed across the United States, as well as in Russia, Europe, and Canada. Under her leadership, Louisiana Dance Theatre became an Honor Company and a 25-year member of Regional Dance America/SW. Throughout her career, Carol has been dedicated to sharing her passion for dance education. She has taught over 40 classes per week to students from diverse backgrounds in various settings. Many of her students have gone on to achieve professional dance careers. Her studio, Carol Anglin Dancenter, Inc., played a pivotal role in nurturing dancers, teachers, choreographers, composers, and fostering a vibrant dance community in Shreveport. As a master teaching artist in Ballet and Modern, Carol has taught internationally in Russia, Europe, and Canada, making her the first American to teach Modern Dance at the School of Marina Semyonova in Moscow. Carol is one of only 18 international teachers accepted to NYU to train with esteemed directors of the Paris Opera Ballet School, Mme. Claude Bessy and Serge Golovine. She attended the USA IBC Teachers Courses in Classical Ballet, completed the Intermediate and Advanced Horton Pedagogy Courses at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, and engaged with the National Dance Educator Organization's Annual Conferences. She holds a Master's in Fine Arts (MFA) from the University of Oklahoma, where, from 2016-2019, she was a Graduate Teaching Foundation Fellow. USE YOUR BACK IN PIROUETTE! COMMON MISTAKES ✨ When doing a pirouette especially from fifth where we have very little help from the legs, it’s essential we use our back! Often what I see is we start to use it but then half way through it essentially completely switches off and therefor we start to lean and “peer round” to try to finish the turn which pushes us off our axis leading to a messier turn or incomplete double. Really try to bring the back and right shoulder ( if we’re turning right ) around very evenly to the front for two complete whole turns bit one and a half as well as getting to the movement and position of regiré in one! We can’t crawl to the pose but we must get there super duper quickly! Once you’re there, really pull up in the supporting hip, keeping glutes engaged, knee pushing back, supporting leg maintaining turnout and back being used very symmetrically in the shoulders! BEGINNER CENTRE - WATCH THE POSTURE! ✨ Here’s a few fragments from one of our latest beginner classes focusing on how to jump in the centre. When beginners first start in the centre especially if the barre and posture have not been fully established we see a lot of arching in the back. This can also be due to weak or a tight psoas muscle. When you plié really focus on engaging the core, scooping in and squeezing the glutes. Then when we push we feel like a solid plank with a slightly sensation of up and over with the upper body!
