It's Foodie Friday, foodie friends! This is the weekly post where I'm showcasing places you should check out during your next Walt Disney World trip, places you should avoid, dishes that are especially amazing (or terrible), and dining locations I'd like your feedback on! It probably wouldn't surprise you to find out that a lot of people ask me for Disney dining recommendations. Friends, family, co-workers, dental hygienists 😂 And I love giving recommendations! Interestingly, the tip that I get the most frequent positive feedback about is going to Disney Springs and eating at Polite Pig. It almost never fails that when someone eats there, they come back and rave about it to me. So it's time to more widely feature this dining gem. Polite Pig is popular. Very popular. You'll frequently see a line outside of the restaurant, and it will scare people away from trying to eat there. But here's the secret- that line moves fast, and Polite Pig reserves seating until after you've ordered, and then has employees dedicated to helping you find somewhere to sit and eat. Then they deliver your food to you. It's almost always seamless, so don't balk at the line. And then you get the food. And the beverages. I typically order a bunch of sides as my meal, because I'm spoiled by great barbecue meats at home in St. Louis. But almost everything on the menu is a shining star. If you can't find something to love here, you're just a foodie grinch. And the selection of bourbon and cocktails is excellent. If you follow me, you know I'm not the biggest fan of the Disney Dining Plan (understatement of the year), but if you've got Quick Service credits, Polite Pig is the place to use them. Chef’s special at Polite Pig! This is a blackened mahi mahi salad with grilled peppers, toasted macadamia nuts, oranges (which I omitted) and a lemon dill dressing. The fish was absolutely amazing. The crust on the outside is perfect. The rest of the salad wasn’t meshing well for me. I think the combination of ingredients wasn’t working but it was a really fresh and light accompaniment to the fish. By the time we got to our “Entree” location during our Progressive Dinner through Disney Springs, Scott and I were too full for a full meal or even a main course. The line for this popular spot was long, but the staff at the restaurant has the process down to a science, so it didn’t take long to place our order and find a table. A bonus of a long line is that we were able to order cocktails to enjoy while waiting. I missed the photo op, but my cocktail was Polite Punch - Firefly Blackberry and Strawberry moonshine, pineapple, cranberry, lime juice, and grenadine. Sweet - yes. Delicious - definitely. Slightly dangerous - quite possibly. Scott enjoyed a pour of Blanton’s private Barrel FOR the Polite Pig in Disney Springs. On the food front, we agreed on Whiskey Caramel Brussels Sprouts, which were somewhat disappointing as they were mushy and not as flavorful as we had hoped for, and the Street Corn side dish, which we were over the moon pleased with. Slight heat from spice and lots of great flavor from smoke, cheese, and seasoning made this a memorable side dish for sure. First of all.. shout-out to Taylor! She’s an amazing bartender that is super friendly and remembered us from our trip last year. Even with a completely slammed bar she made sure I was able to get some shots with the bottles. Now on to the bourbon and the bbq! It’s the annual pilgrimage to Disney World and one of the stops that absolutely cannot be missed is The Polite Pig. Hands down the best bbq and bourbon selection one will find on Disney Property. I started the evening with the Private Flight. 1 ounce pours of 3 of their top private barrel selections- Blanton’s, 1792 Full Proof, and Stagg. Beautifully presented with a card and even a spare glen-cairn of ice- for those that require such trivialities. Blanton’s- N- white grape, honey- great nose! P- Vanilla, white pepper, really nice oaky leather. F- long oaky finish. 3.5/5- really enjoyed this one. 3rd best pour whole trip. 1792 Full Proof- N- Chocolate, smoky, some cherry. P- Wood, more chocolate, cherry cordial? F- Dry woody finish. 2.7/5- Decent.. not my fave profile as the wood was not the dank musty oak I prefer, but decent. Stagg- 137 Proof N- that good oak, vanilla, brown sugar. P- Oaky church pew. Honey, caramel, Brown sugar, leather. F- long brown sugar and oak finish. 4.7- So good. Best in the flight. Best whole trip. Then came the food! We had the slider trio- Southern Pig, Low and Slow Brisket, and fried chicken. All of these are delicious but my ranking is Pulled pork, bbq chicken, and then the Brisket.. brisket was good but I’m a pulled pork guy all day! The wings are incredible. They ended up being number 2 on my WDW Wing Tour ‘24 (more to come on that later!). Overall this place is a 10/10.. no notes.. go early.. go often. Don’t stand in line to order- just try to find a spot at the bar and sit down. Order all the food.. order all the bourbon.. I’ll eat my hat if you don’t enjoy it! Leaving for a quick Florida trip and these are the things we are most excited for! 1. Gideons Bakehouse, we really want to make it to the hot cookie hour. These cookies and the peanut butter cold brew are our favorite! 2. On our rest day we headed over to Disney Springs to do a little shopping. While I was there I fiiiiinally decided to try out The Polite Pig and omg… ✨✨✨ I’d heard so many good things but wow did it still blow me away. I got the Fried Chicken Sandwich for $13 and the Waffle Fries for an additional $6. The sandwich includes Sweet and Smoky BBQ, Duke’s Mayo, and cole slaw served with a pickle spear. I found the sandwich to definitely be on the sweeter side, flavor-wise, but really good and unexpected for fried chicken. As for the fries… I usually don’t like to go to places that charge you for your sides, but I have to say that these were probably the best waffle fries I have ever had in my entire life. They were incredibly well seasoned, fresh and crunchy. Not pictured is their sauce bar which features a variety (4 or 5 maybe???) of the sauces created by the restaurant to pair with different menu items. I only tried one of the sauces with the fries but it was also incredible. Took a quick trip to Florida over the weekend, and stopped at one of my FAVORITE places on Earth, @disneysprings! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you haven’t done #DisneySprings, you HAVE to work it into your next #DisneyWorld itinerary. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Back in the day Disney Springs was Downtown Disney (pretty sure it was something else before that), but now that’s the name of the downtown district in #Disneyland. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Disney Springs is FULL of incredible places to eat and shop, but for me, the atmosphere is the best part. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s the Disney experience without paying for a park ticket, and you can easily make a whole day of it without spending much at all. I think the only thing we spent money on this time was food, and we still had an amazing time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here’s what we did on our quick trip ✨ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ • Parked in the Lime Garage (closest to #PolitePig aka one of my favorite spots in Disney) 💚 • Walked around, explored, and window shopped • Stopped by @basinfresh to smell all the things and exfoliate our hands (I think I washed my hands 3 times while I was there, but it was 100% worth it. They were SO SOFT after using the sugar scrub) • Popped into World of Disney and, as per usual, was quickly overwhelmed by the number of people in the store, but still happy to be there 😄 • Took the riverboat over to #OldKeyWestResort, explored the resort, and bombed at corn hole 🫠 • Took the riverboat back to Disney Springs, and had dinner at @thepolitepig (I usually get the smoked turkey. ✨Polite Pig✨ Located in Disney Springs, this restaurant had us in a serious food coma on our last trip. You can choose to dine in with table service or counter service options depending on how much time you have! We chose table service and this experience was better than anticipated! Our waiter was super friendly and helped us choose some delicious sauces! @samantha_sirois and I are apps and sides girlies and this spot had plenty of them! So which dining spots should go on your to-do list for your next Disney vacation? 1️⃣ Sanaa Breakfast - no, I didn't make a mistake. In the morning, you can get a quick service (or grab and go) breakfast at this Kidani Village location. I was very tempted to keep hiding this relatively hidden gem, but the world needs to know, because Sanaa breakfast is decidedly great. 2️⃣ Primo Piatto - last year's overall winner is still great, and easy to access from many places thanks to the Skyliner! Plus ... Coke Freestyle machine. Win. 3️⃣ Aloha Isle - you're not going to get a hearty meal here, but Dole Whips are obviously popular Magic Kingdom treat 4️⃣ The Polite Pig - amazing dining choices abound at Disney Springs, but if you don't want to deal with reservations, the quick service BBQ at Polite Pig can't be beat. 5️⃣ Satu'li Canteen - this is a regular favorite, found in Pandora at Animal Kingdom. Customize your own bowl with a wide variety of high quality ingredients. Fun first day! Spent most of the afternoon at the pool (it was a brisk 68 degrees out but we still got in!) and then headed to Disney Springs for some food and shopping. Day 1: 14th November 2023 Will never forget this day as long as I live. Being in one of my favourite places, with my favourite guy was just the best feeling. Crystal Palace breakfast on friendship day 🩷🩶💛🧡 Followed by loads of rides - was pretty quite the first few days, so managed to get alot of rides in. First ride of the day was of course #itsasmallworld, then finished the day on #hauntedmansion. After a few rides we bumped into stitch, which was deffo a highlight for me, then we watched our first parade of the holiday and had a #dolewhip. To top the evening of we spent it at #disneysprings, for food at #politepig and a bit of a wind down after all the days antics. Polite Pig is one of my all time favorite disney dining locations 🐷 I usually get a platter with sides, but this one time i tried out their cobb salad with smoked salmon. I had to omit some things from the salad and switch the creamy bacon dressing to a vinaigrette, but despite removing the dairy I had a hearty, delicious bowl! I was really impressed with the salmon coming on a cedar plank on the side and with the generous salad portion. The charred corn and candied bacon were phenomenal. Want to try THE best Quick Service restaurant in all of Walt Disney World? Polite Pig in Disney Springs is our favorite quick-service in all of WDW. Yes, it's a bit out of the way at Disney Springs. But if you're already planning an afternoon or evening over there and don't have a table-service reservation, consider this place. The side menu alone is worth the visit (which also makes it easy for vegetarians!), but almost every entree & meat we've ever tried nails it as well.
