The Whistler - The Good, The Bad And The Smoky (review/tasting) Eerbetoon van Boann Distillery aan de populaire spaghetti westerns van vroeger... 3 Ierse single malts vormen de basis van deze blend, na een initiële rijping op ex-bourbon vaten kregen ze een finish op quarter casks van Laphroaig. Non-chill filtered gebotteld @ 48% ABV Neus: licht rokerig, voornamelijk kampvuurrook. Lichte ziltig, medicinaal karakter. Een bourbon zoetheid met redelijk wat vanille. Verder aroma's van kruidnagel, toffee, melkchocolade en stoofpeertjes. Na een tijdje komt er een thee geur na voren. Palate: kruidig en weer licht rokerig. Zachte vanille en fruit spelen samen met gember en een pepertje. Ook pikken we een tabak nuance op tegen het einde aan richting afdronk. Afdronk: Wederom licht rokerig en ziltig. Zachte kruidigheid houdt ook aan met een zoetheid van granen. Afdronk eeft ook een licht drogend effect. We hadden meer "smokiness" verwacht vanwege de naam en presentatie... maar desondanks een hele smakelijke whisky! (Vooral voor de ±€40 dat het mag kosten) Sláinte! - Paul N & Jeannot P Boann Distillery's tribute to the popular spaghetti westerns of the past... 3 Irish single malts form the basis of this blend, after initial maturation in ex-bourbon barrels they were finished in quarter casks from Laphroaig. Bottled non-chill filtered @ 48% ABV Nose: slightly smoky, mainly campfire smoke. Light salty, medicinal character. A bourbon sweetness with quite a bit of vanilla. Furthermore, aromas of cloves, toffee, milk chocolate and stewed pears. After a while a tea scent emerges. Palate: spicy and slightly smoky. Soft vanilla and fruit play together with ginger and pepper. We also pick up a tobacco nuance towards the end towards the aftertaste. Finish: Again slightly smoky and salty. Soft spiciness also persists with a grain sweetness. Finish also has a slightly drying effect. We expected more "smokiness" because of the name and presentation... but still a very tasty whisky!
