Same as Glenburgie, this is one of Ballantine’s workhorse distilleries, a single malt that has a potential to shine, in the right hands, and those are usually IBs. Again, 31+yo, impressive. As I was preparing to write down some more tasting notes, noticing the fruits in this one felt more like cooked, maybe a little fermented… I understood it’s a festival and I had to engage in social interaction, so I quit writing more notes for the night. Waterford The Cuvée Koffi The Cuvée Koffi is a blend of 24 different Single Farm Origins, each with their own unique terroir-derived flavour. Made from 4 different casks First Fill American Oak (36%), Virgin American Oak (17%), premium French Oak (21%) and Vin Doux Naturels (26%) each of which is over six years old. Free from artificial colouring, additives and chill-filtration and bottled at 50% ABV. The Waterford’s stunning label on the bottle and box is the handiwork of French artist Nathanaël Koffi – giving rise to its affectionate nickname ‘Cuvée Koffi’. The French artist Nathanaël Koffi, you could know him for his work with big names like Maison Kitsune, Moleskine, and Adidas. ‘Through layering colours and patterns, I have aimed to capture the multidimensional and complex natural flavours of this ultimate Waterford Whisky,’ Nathanaël says. ‘It harnesses everything I love about Waterford Distillery and its whiskies: body, texture and avant-garde methodologies.’ To the tasting: Nose: berries, tobacco, vanilla, honey, peppery, oak, candy sweet. Palate: apple, barley, dark fruit, raisin, apricot pie, caramel and candy sweets. Finish: medium to long, fruity, pepper, zesty, sweetness, spicy aftertaste. This week, the weather was beautiful, so I went outside to snap some photos of the bottle and box. Even though what’s inside matters most, the design adds an extra touch of joy and summery vibes. I’ve tried a few Waterford whiskies before, but this one is the best yet, in my opinion. You can really sense that it’s older, more refined, and more complex than the ones I’ve had before. If you’re on the hunt for a new whisky that brings a happy, summery vibe and taste good, this is the one. Tip: Perhaps you can purchase this whisky from the household budget for dining al fresco at home. “It looks nice on our table and when the bottle is empty, we can use it as a water bottle” This is what you say before buy it.😇

Springbank Society Tasting im Whiskyplaza in Hamburg. Ich hatte einen großartigen Abend mit einem gut aufgelegten Andrew Wallace: Zum Start ein süffiger Campbeltown Loch, anschließend ein sehr feiner Hazelburn 6 Jahre aus einem Bourbon Cask, gefolgt von einem ganz starken Kilkerran 17 Jahre, ebenfalls aus einem Bourbonfass. Der allseits bekannte 13 Jahre alte Local Barley 2024, eine intensive Fassprobe vom nächsten Springbank 12 CS und ein fantastischer 20 Jahre alter Springbank aus Port Casks folgten auf dem Fuße, bevor am Ende eine Fassprobe eines der nächsten Longrow Red ins Glas kam. today a really wonderful whisky from the Spingbank Distillery. The whisky was allowed to mature for 12 years in fresh sherry hogshead. it was bottled with a strong 58% alcohol. distilled: June 15, 2007 bottled: September 12, 2019 just wonderful. the Springbank Distillery is located on the Kintyre Peninsula in Scotland. The Glen Scotia and Glengyle distilleries also form the Campbeltown whisky region, which used to have around 30 distilleries. Since 1837, Springbank has been owned by the Mitchell family and has retained its independence to this day. In addition to Springbank, Longrow and, since the end of 1997, Hazelburn are also distilled here. Also owned by the Mitchell dynasty is the Wm. A 2001 Port Charlotte single malt from independent bottler Vintage Bottlers as part of its Rare Casks series. This whisky aged 21 years in a rum barrel and is bottled at 48.7% ABV and has 40 PPM (The total phenol parts per million). For me, this is my oldest Port Charlotte and the first whisky from Vintage Bottlers so far, and I’ve never drunk a Port Charlotte from a rum barrel. I don’t think many Port Charlotte whiskies have been released from a rum barrel, and certainly not for 21 years long. To the tasting: Nose: Smoke, citrus fruit, charred wood, fresh maritime notes, Palate: sweet, citrus, malty, maritime influences, oak, leather Finish: long and dry, peaty, more citrus, hint of umami saltiness. This is a big whisky, complex, the classic Islay character is always beautifully present and ageing it for 21 years in a rum barrel adds a unique twist to it. This whisky is still for sale in various shops. Yes it is very pricey but what a whisky, I enjoy every sip! !!!
Springbank 8 years 1970's 🇫🇷 Mettre la main sur une vieille edition de Springbank ca fait toujours plaisir meme si le suspens demeure... Et dans ce cas, il n'a pas demeuré bien longtemps. Bien mais pas inoubliable du tout 😭 L'alcool est completement absent, du fruit, une belle fraicheur accompagné d'un OBE pas desagreable. Le nez est validé. En bouche, c'est fumée, fruité, mais ca chauffe, pas tres équilibré et ca part un peu dans tous les sens 🥵 Les saveurs ne sont pas toutes tres agréable et globalement je suis déçu 😞 🇬🇧 Getting your hands on an old Springbank edition is always a pleasure, even if the suspense is still there... And in this case, it didn't last very long. Good but not unforgettable at all 😭 The alcohol is completely absent, fruit, a nice freshness accompanied by a not unpleasant OBE. The nose is validated. Daftmill || Summer release 2023 || Distilled 2011 || 46% 🎈 I have a mild bias towards lowland distilleries. St. Magdalene being one of my favourite distilleries with some Littlemill, old Bladnoch amongst my favourites. Recently there were Lindores Abbey & Lochlea distilleries whose releases I tasted. Warm welcome additions. Daftmill, small & family owned distillery had produced some nice whiskies in the past, though not work the secondary prices though. The distillery is owned by J&A Mitchell, and has been since 1897. In its heyday, Campbeltown was the distilling capital of Scotland. Unfortunately things took a turn, and many distilleries started closing down. For the longest time, Springbank was one of only 2 distilleries that survived in the Campbeltown region. The only time Springbank mothballed was from 1979 - 1989. Since re-opening, Springbank has only gone from strength to strength, and is now one if the most sought after single malt whisky. Springbank is also famous for being the only distillery in Scotland that malts all their own barley on their malting floors. Three distinctive single malts with different styles are produced at the distillery. Springbank is distilled 2.5 times at 12-15ppm; Longrow is distilled twice at 50-55ppm; and Hazelburn is distilled three times and is unpeated. In this tasting, we will be exploring 6 very special expressions of Springbanks - these bottles are from the collection of Dominik Holzer, one of the biggest Springbank collector here in Australia.
