Meine Tochter und ich sind heute bei der Grätzl Kidical Mass in Hernals/Ottakring mitgefahren. Was für eine schöne Kinderfahrraddemo! Über 600 Menschen, allen voran Kinder, setzten heute ein sichtbares, buntes und fröhliches Zeichen für mehr sichere Radwege in unserer Stadt! 🧒👧🚲 Ich will nicht nur mit meinen Töchtern auf sicheren Radwegen fahren, ich will vor allem, dass sie selbstständig mit dem Fahrrad unterwegs sein können. Ich will, dass sie sich in dieser Stadt mit ihrem Drahtesel frei bewegen können, ohne auf wen anderen angewiesen zu sein und ohne Angst, dass sie überfahren werden. Das ist meine Vorstellung von Lebensqualität und Freiheit. 💚 Die Straßen der Zukunft geben uns wieder den Platz und die Sicherheit, die wir brauchen. Tractor Tuesday! . April was a reasonably good month for the bike considering how infrequently it felt like I rode, once again passing 400 miles in a month and also crossing 1500 for the year so far. Doing all of Whitewater in one day was definitely the highlight! . Shop time was sparse, refinishing a desk and rebuilding nightstand drawers being two of the notable projects amongst other odds and ends. I have bigger plans for the coming month. . I didn’t read a whole lot, only getting about 2/3 through The Two Towers since I’ve been reading it before bed and am lucky if I get 5 or 10 pages in before falling asleep, and couch time was mostly spent watching Breaking Bad instead of reading comics or other books. . 40 miles to start the week, but also as a bittersweet end to another excellent vacation visiting family in MA. #Spreewaldmarathon2024 Unsere Zeit im Spreewald hatte nicht nur eine laaaaaaange Radfahrt 🚴🏻♀️ zu bieten, sondern auch einen 5km Nachtlauf 🏃🏻♀️ für mich (Wanderung für @tim_hinrichson 🚶🏼♂️) mit grüner Gurkenmedaille und ein paar wunderbare Touriaktivitäten 🚣♀️. Der Nachtlauf war mega! Es waren bestimmt 2/3 wandernde auf der Strecke, es war das erste Mal, dass ich an einem "Lauf" mit mehr Geherinnen als Läuferinnen teilgenommen habe. Es gab eine Band im Ziel, eine wunderschön beleuchtete Strecke und eine ganz zauberhafte Atmosphäre 🙏🏼. Insgesamt kann ich der Gesamtveranstaltung "Spreewaldmarathon" nur ein riesendickes Lob aussprechen. 👌🏼 Es ist für alle etwas dabei: 🏃🏻♀️ Läufe von 5 km bis 42,195 km 🚶🏻♀️ Wanderungen von 5km bis 21km 🛼 Inlineskaten Halb- oder Marathon 🚴🏻♀️ Radfahren 30, 50, 70, 110, 150 oder 200km 🚣♀️ Paddeln/SUP von 5 bis 42km 🛹 Longboard 24km ... dazu kommen noch Kinderwettbewerbe, die übrigens kostenfrei sind ☺️. Die Verpflegung ist der Hammer, die Atmosphäre toll und das Prinzip der verschieden farbigen Gurkenmedaillen 🥒 🏅finde ich super. Ganz, ganz große Empfehlung. Ich bin nächstes Jahr wieder dabei 🤗 Für eure Planung: 1. Holt eure Startunterlagen unbedingt alle direkt am Freitag ab. Das spart Stress und ihr habt schon mal alle Startbereiche gesehen. 2. Schaut euch genau die Streckensperrungen an und plant eure Anreise am Wettkampftag entsprechend, damit es euch nicht geht wie uns am Sonntag und ihr beim Frühstück feststellt, dass ihr gar nicht vom Hotel weg kommt, weil die Marathonstrecke direkt vorm Hotel lang führt 🙈 PS: Die Radstrecken waren alle ausgebucht... Es lohnt sich also ggf schnell zu sein ☺️ Und 2025 ist das ganze eine Woche später... Mein erster Radmarathon oder Sterben in 3 Akten. 3. Akt - KM 150-200. Schmerzen 😣🙈 Nach dem VP war es kurz schön. So bis KM 150 🫣Wir sind zusammen geblieben. Es gab Rückenwind. Noch einmal Trackverwirrungen, diesmal haben wir uns für den GPX Track entschieden. Wir blieben zu zweit mit den beiden flotten Jungs, die immer wieder auf uns warteten. Die Strecke war übrigens insgesamt wunderschön, auch wenn ich das nicht so würdigen konnte, wie ich es gerne getan hätte 😂! Viel wunderbarer Asphalt, viel Wald. Sehr empfehlenswert, falls ihr mal in der Gegend seid 🤩. Die Sonne kam raus, ich hatte warme Füße. Aber so langsam konnte ich nicht mehr sitzen 🙈. Mein 🍑 tat echt weh. Ich war nicht wund, aber irgendwann... tut es einfach weh. Das ist etwas, was mich am Rennradfahren nervt 😬 Zur Krönung kickte dann auch noch die Lutealphase so richtig mit beginnendem PMS, so dass neben 🍑 auch noch die 🍒 bei jeder Unebenheit ihren Kommentar zur Tour abgegeben haben... Wenn schon, denn schon 🙄. Unsere letzte Pause machten wir bei KM160. Danach hieß es, das Ding irgendwie nach Hause bringen. Damit es nicht zu einfach wird, kam der Regen zurück. Plus Hagel. Und die kalten Füße. Die letzten 20 km waren echt nicht mehr schön 🙈 Was war ich froh, als ich das Ziel sah. Da gab es auch wieder etwas Sonne. @tim_hinrichson stand schon bereit und feuerte mich noch mal an. Im Ziel war ich so fertig, dass mir die Tränen kamen. Ich muss sagen - mein gelaufener Marathon war lange nicht so anstrengend 😬🫣 Warum tue ich sowas? Weil es so schön ist, wenn der Schmerz nachlässt? Das könnte ich doch leichter haben, oder 🙈? Im Mai dann nochmal 100km mehr... Mein erster Impuls im Ziel war: Ich fahre die MSR nicht 🙈 Aber - das wird besser. Ich bin so froh, beim MSR300 eine feste Gruppe zu haben, dank der Women's Community 🙏🏼 Und ich hoffe auf besseres Wetter 😬 Und frage mich trotzdem - warum zum Teufel 😂? Mein erster Radmarathon beim @spreewaldmarathon (200km). Oder: Sterben in 3 Akten 🙈. 1. Akt: KM 0-59. Ich hatte schon auf der Anfahrt keine Lust mehr 😂. Es regnete. Und es war kalt. 5 Grad und a...kalter Wind. Gott sei Dank hat @tim_hinrichson nicht auf der Schnapsidee bestanden mit dem Rad die 13km vom Hotel zum Start zu radeln 😳🙏🏼. Angekommen. Geparkt. Räder vorbereitet. Nochmal zurück ins Auto, warm bleiben. 7h. Auf zum Start. Es regnete. Von Anfang an. 7:15h - es geht los. Da sollten eigentlich 110 Menschen sein. Ich behaupte, es waren vielleicht 60 😂 Der Regen wurde schnell schlimmer. Aber ich hatte relativ schnell eine ganz gute Gruppe für mich gefunden, auch wenn sie mir etwas zu schnell war. Aber langsam war irgendwie keine Option, es war zu kalt dafür. Gruppe fahren heißt aber auch: Dreck fressen vom Hinterrad. Im Wortsinne. Selten so viel Sand im Mund gehabt 🤢 Bei KM 25 bogen die ersten aus der Gruppe zum VP ab. Mir war es zu kalt für eine Pause. Also weiter, weiter. Mir war sooo kalt. Meine Beine waren kalt. Meine Füße waren patschnass und kalt 🥶. Alles war ätzend. Ich dachte immer an die MSR300 und das ich nächste Woche mit Lungenentzündung im Bett liegen werde und das ich das nicht noch 8h durchhalte. Also habe ich beschlossen am VP 2 bei KM59 auszusteigen und mir ein Taxi zu rufen. Wäre mein erstes DNF. Vielleicht hört Tim ja auch auf, wenn ich Bescheid sage 🤷🏻♀️. Aber wann soll ich denn dann mal eine lange Tour fahren? Und was ist mit meiner Medaille? Aber wenn ich mir die MSR zerschieße, ärgere ich mich schwarz 😣 Irgendwann wurde der Regen weniger. Irgendwie wurde irgendwas besser. Beim VP habe ich dann erst einmal meine Schuhe ausgekippt und die Socken ausgewrungen. Ein paar Brezelchips genascht. Ein kleines Stück Kuchen. Kein Hunger. Kein Durst. Mir war kalt. Ich bin dann einfach weiter. Started a new job this week at Bike the Burgh /Walk the Burgh in downtown Pittsburgh. Im the tour/shop manager 4 days a week but this week I'm easing into the job with short training sessions/shadowing/and maybe will be going on a few tours. I completed my own solo edition of The Whole Enchilada at Whitewater Center today! I rode every single mountain bike trail that was open today, getting in 43 miles in 4:38. I ate a banana and half a PBNJ sandwich that I packed in a jersey pocket throughout the first chunk of the ride, then at mile 30 stopped at the car for two fresh ice cold water bottles out of the cooler, ate another sandwich, and tossed the final half sandwich into my jersey pocket which I ate shortly before mile 40. In total I drank three water bottles and one Gatorade. . I started at East Main, which is by far my least favorite trail and also a hell of a workout so I wanted to make sure I was fresh. From there it was Parkway to Prairie Dog to Tributary (with Chili Dog), then Corn Dog, then across the road to Panda, Smokey, and Bandit with both side trails (Rail and Gravy, I think). At this point I was over 20 miles and starting to feel tired, wondering if I should push on. I obviously decided yes, so it was back across the street, down the other side of Parkway to Academy (including Field Trip), and then back to the car. . After the refuel it was my typical North and South Main ride with all side trails except Carpet that was unfortunately closed, apparently due to trail maintenance. I hit Goat Hill at 36.5 miles right before the 4 hour mark and it was brutal, but the two climbs on that trail were thankfully the last two big ones of the whole ride. I finished off with Dog Leg, the new Lake Loop replacement, which was a pretty tame trail and a good way to finish the ride. . I grilled chicken, peppers, and pineapple when I got home, and now that I’m freshly showered I’ll be spending the rest of the night relaxing and likely going to bed early. Went out with the fender-equipped Weekender knowing there was a small chance of rain tonight, and I was very glad for it as the first half of the ride had a few spotty drizzles and miles of wet roads. The second half was windy but otherwise dry until I was four miles from home where it started raining steadily; once I pulled in my neighborhood the skies truly opened up for barely 30 seconds, just enough to make sure my shoes were completely soaked through before pulling in the driveway. Another year kicking off the mountain bike season at Moab Rocks is done and dusted. While there were certainly no peak performances from myself I can confidently say that I’ve progressed into a better and more confident rider. This year will certainly look a lot different as I’m trying to take a step back. My goal is to always have riding as part of my life but not to have it as my life. I’ll always be chasing these experiences though and sharing this experience with @noridearound really made the race special. I’d say I have a love/hate relationship with my 2x10 Force setup, but it’s more of a tolerate/hate. Saturday I spent four hours on the bike with the front and rear shifting beautifully. Sunday I over shifted onto the crank arm where the chain got stuck between the big ring and crank arm, and spent the rest of my short ride listening to chain noise and a periodic knock that would come and go. Monday I dropped the chain on the inside for the first time in many years (and had to move the chain catcher - which did not catch the chain, mind you - out of the way with my multitool just to get the damn chain back on!) and lost the knocking sound but had general noise for the next two hours instead. . Half of me would love to upgrade this to 1x12, as 1x drivetrains on my other bikes have spoiled me greatly. I’ve even done the math and found a 10-36 cassette with a 42t chainring would get me practically identical range to my standard setup with comparable gaps between cogs, and the same chainring with a 10-45 cassette would give me similar to my climbing cassette setup (minus one top end gear). But an AXS setup that kept these cranks would probably run $1500+, with a Ratio Tech hack to keep these shifters being a few hundred less. A 1x11 setup is cheaper but less range; the 10t small cog really ties it together. . The sensible half of me wants to keep the 2x10 and just maintain it better, and not only because it’s the financially responsible thing to do. This bike is a relic of my road bike evolution from my first road bike in 2009 - the only original part left is the saddle! - and it feels good to continue putting big miles on old parts. I find myself getting more enjoyment racking up high miles on parts than I do buying new stuff, which is something Rob of 15 years ago would not have understood. .
