What a difference a night made - this wilting sad hydrangea was unhappy sitting in my flower bed and turned out it hadn’t ‘taken’ so when I dug it up it still looked liked it was in a flower pot. My father in law sorted it out, giving the roots a good water, adding some fish blood and bone goodness and some fresh compost and voila, it’s bounced back! Happy hydrangea. Yesterday I did the first of the three mayor reports I have to do: my big spider plant. She’s been in that pot for years! I think it’s been 5 or 6 years 😅 but I’m not sure 🙃 she was in a pot without drainage holes, but leca in the bottom for drainage (which doesn’t really work). The rootball was almost the entire pot, but looked amazing 🤩 I took off as much of the old soil as possible, because it was so spent. And you now what, she immediately looked greener and happier in her new soil, in her new pot 😁 now she can grow even bigger 😳 . #hugespiderplant #repotting #plantcare #happyplants #bigprojects

I’ve always been enamored by the #baldcypress collected by the late #marymadison. Naturally stunted and #proportions already sculpted by #nature they embody the #idea of #miniaturized #trees from the #wild I was fortunate enough to acquire one of her last raw #yamadori while at a #repotting #intensive @bonsaimirai last year and placed it in a @horstheinzlreiter container. After recovering well throughout 2023, the tree was ready for its initial styling. Due to the #history of the #specimen I entrusted Ryan Neil @bonsaimirai to complete the task and he masterfully executed as usual. LET'S GET DIRTY... 😜 Get your mind out of the gutter, we're talking repotting! 🌱 I spent some quality time today with this Thanksgiving Cactus dividing and repotting her into more manageable sized pots at the request of her sweet owner. She was stubborn, making me work to free her, but I'm good with my hands 😉 and soon enough her root ball was out. Spent awhile carefully removing the old soil and inspecting the roots which looked great so then it was time to divide and conquer. And just like that one plant became five, new soil, fertilizer & pots and she was fresh like the Prince of Bel-Air! A cover pot is a pot that has no drainage - no drainage results in issues such as overwatering, which can lead to root rot (your poor plant won’t even have a chance to thrive🥲). We did some serious repotting work on our big centerpiece Ficus today. This tree is approximately 100 years old and is 3 feet tall from base to apex. The trunk is a Ficus Retusa and each branch is a grafted Ficus Microcarpa. We've been training this tree for over 25 years. During the course of the 25 years, it grew the air roots that you see here.
