Rokksafn Íslands (Rock Museum of Iceland) is a private exhibition located in Keflavík. As reflected by the name, this museum focuses on the history of rock and pop music in Iceland. For being a small country, Iceland has a vibrant and flourishing music scene with an interesting history behind it. On the plus side, some of the objects on display are undeniably fun and strange (like the knife-wielding statue of Barði Jóhannsson, accompanied by a dog with his face). The history of Icelandic music was interesting to learn about and it was good fun to see the different costumes, watch old music videos, and see the instrument collections. Visitors can sing, play electric drums, bass, or guitar in the Sound Lab, and try their hand at DJing with records. The record display was my favourite part, I thought it was quite clever. You can't have actual records out as they would be destroyed very quickly, so instead you can choose from a selection of record shaped discs to spin, each loaded with music that plays through headsets. The entry fee is also relatively cheap compared to many museums and exhibitions at 1500 kr/adult. On the down side, this is an incredibly text-heavy museum. I'm someone who loves reading museum text more than the average person, and even for me this was an overload. The font displays were also very difficult to read in some cases, as there was not enough contrast to fully read the text. I'm not sure if there were some lights that had burned out or not, but several of the text panels were dark, making it even more difficult to read. There is an app available through an iPad but I went through without it. To be fair I think I'm getting a bit burned out on museum apps and audio guides lately. Overall, if you're interested in music or want to learn more about Icelandic music history, this is worth a stop. It's also great for a layover, as it's roughly a 5 minute drive from the Keflavík airport. #museumsiniceland #söfnumsöfnum #rokksafn

Comenzamos a preparar este viaje a principios de 2020. Lo que pasó poco después es historia. Estuvimos bregando con cambios de vuelos, cancelaciones y restricciones, hasta que llegó el freno definitivo: la cuarentena obligatoria. Hubo que parar todo pero por suerte recuperamos el 99% de la pasta. Hacerlo este año tampoco ha sido fácil, había que tener la segunda dosis 15 días antes de salir (llegamos por poco), test de antígenos negativo 72 h. antes y algún que otro trámite extra. El alquiler de la camper sale considerablemente más caro que el año pasado. Bueno, llevamos más de 1500 km. en 6 días. Mucha carretera, mucho camping y mucho baño compartido. Pero sabemos dónde comprar buena birra a precio razonable (es todo bastante caro). Hoy hemos decidido buscar un hotel, mañana seguiremos la ruta.
