Eumundi provided inspiration from the 1970s to 90s for a creative group of artists, designers, writers and environmentalists including architect Gabriel Poole and his artist wife Elizabeth Frith. Their office/studio was the Old Bakery on Memorial Dr which now houses a hairdresser and restaurant. After building his Tent House home in Eerwah Vale in 1990 Gabriel drew international acclaim for its innovative design, use of unusual lightweight materials with retractable walls and minimal environmental impact. It received the Royal Australian Institute of Architects Innovation Award. In 1996 he created a new version of the Tent House at Lake Weyba. Throughout his career Gabriel pursued affordable housing solutions with the aim of increasing the availability of architecture to the mass market and designing a number of Sunshine Coast houses. His designs catered to clients' budgets, from container and small homes to huge villas of concrete and steel, all impacting on the eye and considering the environment. Elizabeth collaborated on design, use of colour, materials and aesthetic appeal. They saw a future for intergenerational homes where whole families could live together. Gabriel received the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA) Gold Medal for Lifetime Contribution to architecture in 1998 and died in 2020, making his houses even more in demand.

This week’s meeting at our new location @glccenter also included a tour of the campus. It’s a beautiful campus with lots of community partnerships, events and programs. Not to mention the outside of the building and their “backyard” of wetland trails that stretch over a mile long. If you haven’t walked the trails we highly recommend it. Our first service team of the year! This was a team of Rotarians from Canada and the U.S. The team focussed on two areas of service: medical, and community work in the Guadari neighborhood near the capital of Costa Rica, San Jose. The medical team visited houses to determine healthcare needs and hosted a community clinic on the last workday of the trip. The community service group spent their time in the renovation of a small neighborhood community center and hosted some activity times for local children - including a “HealthCare Fiesta”. This community is composed primarily of Nicaraguan and other immigrants into Costa Rica who live in an area with marginal housing and no access to health care. Additionally, one of the highlights of our trip was being invited to attend special dinners/get to know you evenings with two Rotary groups, one was Heredia Rotary the other was Alajuela Rotary. This team also combined service with tourism by spending an afternoon at a coffee plantation, a luncheon in the “Teatro Nacional” (national theater), and two/three craft shopping outings. The final outing was a day tour of rainforest and river and waterfall areas. As well as time on the Pacific beach near Jaco. The core concept behind Well Child International Rotary trips is the unique combination of authentic (not token) service, local Rotary Club fellowship, tourism, and first-class accommodations all coordinated by experienced WCI travel staff. #rotaryinternational #rotaryclub #rotary #internationalservice #communityservice #costarica #medicalmission #medicalteam #mission #shorttermmissions #service

Em decorrência da data, o Rotaract Club de Sananduva estará realizando uma ação amanhã, dia 27 de abril de 2024, na Praça Municipal de Sananduva. Na ação estaremos realizando a arrecadação de dinheiro (e pix) para ser destinado ao Rotary International para a realização da compra de vacinas para a Poliomielite. Sabe-se que o Rotary International sempre esteve a frente da compra e distribuição de vacinas contra a Poliomielite, e nós estamos junto pela erradicação da Pólio. Mangroves are important to birds because they provide nesting, roosting, foraging, and breeding areas for hundreds of species of shorebirds and migratory birds.
