Living in an area, like Elgin County, Ontario, for 17 years, we start to see the difference a few years makes in some barns. Just leave them alone for a few years, unattended, and without maintenance and you can see what often happens to the barn. When the wind and the weather start getting in side, they deteriorate fast. Clinton, Ontario is a small town located in the municipality of Central Huron. The town of Clinton was established in 1831, when Jonas Gibbings and brothers Peter And Stephen Vanderburg cleared out an area of land. Took the trip to a barn in Chatham-Kent to help an owner get his barn on YOBS and to talk about his barn. It is a big barn, in the area of 98' x 36', and the threshing floor is on the ground, at one time, through and through the barn. Horses, pork and bovines were the mainstay in the past and there is one area which was used to dry tobacco naturally. The owner has repaired a good potion of the roof, and there is a bit of work to do on some foundation flaws, as well as loose boards on the outside. Otherwise, it is a structurally sound barn. There are a couple of items which I will point out in the additional photos, primarily the granary wall. We noticed a hand drawn caricature of a pig, curly tail and all, so it warranted a closer look. It seems this was a record wall for one of the previous owners. Lighting was poor, so I used the camera flash. When I pulled the photo up on my computer and applied some corrections with software, several stories showed up as well as signatures. I don't have room to share the modified photo on this page, so w]i will show it on a separate post. We did miss some records on another wall, as they showed up on another photo, so a return visit is in the plans. #barnsofinstagram #RuralOntario

This past Monday the Ausable Camera Club welcomed local photographer Leanne Murray from @intuitionphotographybyleanne for a practical lesson in headshots and portraits. With two decades of experience under her belt, the club was lucky to have Leanne stop by to share some of her tips and tricks! The next time the Ausable Camera Club meets they'll be taking the show on the road on May 18th as the club carpools up to Palmerston to see historic downtowns, picturesque side streets, and maybe some train stuff too. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come along for the ride! Since its founding in 2017, the Ausable Camera Club's focus is on developing and encouraging creative and technical skills in photography. At that time it was vibrant, flowering and much smaller. ๐Now, it needs help. ๐ฑIt is overgrown, part dying and I just don't have a green thumb to know what to do. So I asked my local flower shop @milesflowersburford if they would take this planter and work their #greenthumb magic, and call me when it's ready. They said YES! I am hoping it will now be several smaller potted plants and be fresh, fertilized and happy for Spring Summer. As it has sentimental importance I do want any they can save, back in my home and to share with family, too! Stay tuned for the final results this week. And, while I was there, I had to get me some @mysweetsweetworld chocolate as it's is sooooo smooth, so good! We were doing some touring West of London and I was making a turn around to get another photo of a barn we passed. I just happened to turn into the entrance to this little barn and grabbed the pic when I had the chance. I am glad I did. It is just another non descript barn for the area, but it did raise a family or two. It is on the ground, not that uncommon for this area. When I zoom on the original photo, I see the box on the ground in front of the barn is just that, a box off a wheeled trailer. I can see there has been a door cut in the East end, and there are several boards on the exterior which have been replaced over the years. The steel on the roof is in good shape, but it is the style from 80 or more years ago. Probably the second roof on the barn. I would think the twin doors access the threshing floor. There is another small shed behind this barn, but no other buildings other than the residence. #RuralOntario #barnsofinstagram
