Day 10 memories after returning to Nájera from our hotel via taxi, Bill and I set out on a slightly shorter day (only 13 miles). While at the hotel the night prior I took a little time to book accommodations for the next few nights to ensure that I wouldn’t have to taxi to a distant hotel again. We set forth from Nájera (the landscape around which I felt like I could have been in Sedona, AZ) and walked to Santo Domingo de la Calzada. . Along the way was this effigy of Jesus that looks like it was a remnant of or prepared for some ritualistic experience. The Camino has all kinds of interesting things like this along the way. . Also came across this ancient ruin and felt compelled to look up information about it. Not sure that I liked what I discovered. This was a capital punishment site in the 16th Century. Executions were carried out here, and bodies left for public display (as a deterrent). . This was also the day that Bill took a picture that still graces my computer’s desktop background. . And then there were two…. Said goodbye to Craig today - he’s flying home from Barcelona tomorrow. We’ve had a wonderful month sharing our southern ED stage with him. Once the worst of the weather passed, we braved the rain and rode over the beautiful Pyrenees towards France. We are getting close! All the things we can control are almost complete. Just need minor things like a passport sized photo and to make copies of everything. The things we can't and the biggest one - our placement. At the moment, we have no idea what region we might be placed and if we will be in schools near each other. This is pretty much what is going to determine what visa appointment we apply for and/or one of us will be a dependent on the others' visa (on top of our daughter). If we do need to go this route, we need our marriage certificate apostilled and translated (both done) and proof of funds (just need to print). Auf meiner heutigen Wanderung hat mich 3 Stunden lang der TUI-Flieger begleitet.....Ein Belgier, der mich mit seinem Hund ein Stück meines Weg begleitet hat, erzählte mir, daß der Flieger so lange über der Nordsee und Ostende kreisen muss, bis er genügend Kerosin verflogen hat. Man dürfe hier nur mit einer geringen Menge an Kerosin landen....jetzt weiß ich auch, warum die Flugtickets immer teurer werden 😂 Heute auch den ganzen Tag Sportler gesehen, die für die #paralympics2024 trainieren.....am kommenden Wochenende stehen dann die Teilnehmer für Paris fest. #ostende #paralympics #tui #flughafenoostende #küstebelgien #Sabbatical

Mit großen Schritten geht es auf unser Sabbatical zu 😍🚐🐾 Am 12. Mai wollen wir unser Wohnmobil gepackt haben und Richtung Dänemarkt starten. Da schon einige Fragen kamen, hier ein paar Details: 🌸 Fabi hat Zeit auf seinem Arbeitszeitkonto angespart, dass er sich während der Freistellung auszahlen lässt. Ich habe meinen Jahresurlaub genommen und mich danach 6 Monate unbezahlt freistellen lassen. Dafür haben wir die letzte Jahre angespart. 🌸 Unsere grobe Route: über Fehmarn geht’s für die ersten 3 Monate nach Dänemark, weiter nach Schweden und dann nach Norwegen und Finnland. Konkret haben wir nur die Rückfahrt mit der Fähre geplant. Die restlichen 3 Monate soll es über Frankreich und Nordspanien nach Portugal gehen und dann am Mittelmeer entlang zurück. 🌸 Für die Einreise in die oben genannten Länder brauchen wir nur einen Reisepass. Cleo braucht eine gültige Tollwutimpfung und vor Einreise nach Norwegen müssen wir sie gegen Bandwürmer behandeln lassen. 🌸 wir packen ungefähr so viel wie wir für 2 Wochen brauchen. Waschen werden wir dann auf Campingplätzen oder in öffentlichen Waschmaschinen. Mittlerweile sind wir schon ganz schön aufgeregt und die Vorfreude steigt! Mein Mann konnte eine Regelung mit seinem Arbeitgeber treffen und erhielt 80% seines Gehalts bei 100%iger Arbeitsleistung für einen bestimmten Zeitraum – auch während seiner 3-monatigen Auszeit. So toll! Doch für mich als Solopreneurin stellte sich die Frage: Wie kann ich mir eine solche Auszeit überhaupt erlauben? Mit wem kann ich eine Regelung vereinbaren? Ich führte innere Dialoge: Welche Möglichkeiten habe ich? Kann ich es mir finanziell leisten, eine Pause einzulegen? Bekomme ich genug Aufträge, um diese Zeit zu überbrücken? Schlussendlich wagten wir es, und ich entschied mich für 2,5 Monate komplett auszusteigen – ohne jegliche Arbeit. Mein Herz raste, aber diese Zeit war ein Privileg. Die besonderen Momente und die wertvollen Erfahrungen, die wir gemacht haben, sind unbezahlbar und gehören nur uns. Das Schönste daran: Sogar Freunde und andere Familienangehörige wurden Teil dieser Reise. Die Reise nach Bali zahlte sich aus. Als der ersehnte Auftrag ein Tag vor der Abreise kam, konnte ich die Auszeit mit meiner Familie in vollen Zügen auskosten. Es zeigt sich immer wieder: Es ist unverzichtbar, einzigartige Gelegenheiten zu ergreifen. Denn oft erweisen sich die größten Ängste als grundlos, und die Belohnungen können weit über unsere Vorstellungskraft hinausgehen. Lasst uns mutig sein und uns nicht von unseren Ängsten zurückhalten! Denn das Leben ist zu kurz, um unsere Träume nicht zu verfolgen und sie zur Realität werden zu lassen. GW1回目お泊まりキャンプ この組み合わせが定番になりつつ、、、 #サバティカル #モーニンググローリーtc #sabbatical #morninggrowly #ワークマンタープ #ミシックペンタゴンタープft #大野山アルプスランド 次の日の昼過ぎには雨が降る予報でしたので、メイン幕のモーニンググローリーを午前中に畳んでタープのみ残す作戦でした。予測は見事的中で濡らさずに幕を回収、タープも少しだけ小雨にあたった程度で済みました。荷物を全て車に積み込み終わると本降りに👍 ギリギリまで粘れた晴れキャンプでした。 高低差あるサイトだったので上方向からの撮影です。これまでワークマンタープいいバランスやなと思ってたんですが、真横から見てみると意外にモーニンググローリーの大きさを実感w 手持ちの幕だったら4×4ddタープかゲウぐらいが丁度いいバランスになるのかも？ マリポサLという同メーカーのタープを持っていながらいまだに組み合わせた事がないという、、、w
Today, I resigned from Jefferson and from teaching. I’m going to take a year to find joy and live life to the fullest, like I promised my mom. I’m going to see the world, write, produce, sub, grow, learn, experience, and see where life takes me. I am so proud and honored to have taught at my alma mater for the past 23 years, proud of the work I’ve done with my colleagues who are my family, the lives we’ve touched and changed, and most importantly, proud to have been the teacher of all of the students I’ve been lucky enough to teach or coach. I am going to miss my colleagues, my students, my families, and the place that has been home for the majority of my life. I have been forever changed because of my time as a Jefferson Saint, and I am a better person for it. Day 9 memories… I had met up with Bill once again in Logroño, and after a night enjoying tapas/pintxos y cerveza on Calle del Laurel we set off before sunrise walking together toward our next planned stop: Nájera. It was a 17.5 mile walking day, and we were trying to beat the hordes that would descend on a Saturday night of a holiday weekend looking for limited accommodations. Every place we had reached out to in advance was booked so the next option was to get to the municipal albergue (municipals don’t take advance reservations). We arrived in Nájera, and found our way to the queue of people outside the municipal albergue. This albergue had 21 beds. Bill and I were 22 and 23 in line. The only solution at that point was to book a hotel (we found one that was 18km away) and take a taxi. Not ideal, but at least we had a place to stay. .
