UNDER THE SEA || “From birth, man carries the weight of gravity on his shoulders. He is bolted to earth. But man has only to sink beneath the surface and he is free.” Jacques Cousteau I’ve always found diving to be transformative. At the surface, I often panic. Lots about diving actually really scares me and it’s taken many dives to overcome those fears… but even at the very start, something about sinking down into the depths has always enabled me to leave those fears behind. I feel more present underwater. I feel more connected. On the surface, I often worry about unseen sharks circling while I swim… underwater? It’s nothing but pure delight. I can’t fully explain it, but it’s like crossing a barrier into another world. A world where I think differently… and it’s utterly addictive. Anyone else experience this?! I closed my retail business of 10 years at the end of November, I’m diving into new & exciting job opportunities this month & next, I’m packing, purging & preparing to move from my home of 20 years, and I just realized that this Saturday is my last regular class on the schedule at Salty Dog, my yoga home for the last 10 years as a student & 6 years as a teacher. Jillian started teaching yoga in 2014 after completing her 200hr yoga teacher training at the School of Yoga Institute in Guatemala. In 2016, she traveled to Rishikesh, India and completed her 300hr YTT at Shiva Yoga Peeth. Initially, she was drawn to yoga as a way to exercise but later found it to be a place for sacred self healing. She studied and researched yoga during her masters program in kinesiology at East Carolina University and there developed a love for yoga therapy.
