🚨Brum rise up today!🚨 In opposition to the disastrous planned cuts by the council, local groups and unions across the city are putting on a demo today at 12pm outside the library in Centenary square. Today is the May Day bank holiday, in commemoration of Labour Day, when workers fight for better working standards and conditions. The planned cuts to Birmingham services will make life worse for service uses and workers alike. Cutting libraries, arts funding, disability services and council jobs will drive the city further backwards and impact the poorest and most vulnerable amongst us the worst. As alot of people are aware, parents of children attending the paediatric diabetes clinic in Mullingar hospital, were issued a very worrying letter Tuesday morning. A letter highlighting that staffing issues have gotten so bad, there are no longer any nurses, dieticians or psychologists working within the service. This has been highlighted by both regional and national media. I'm Mammy to a Sasha, my fierce little type one. One of the 145 children who depend so heavily on these services. We need to keep these services well supported and well staffed, to avoid many unnecessary health complications from arising. Today (18.11.2023) around 150 people marched from #batley town hall to #dewsbury town hall in a protest against the cuts being proposed by @kirklees.council who is looking at cutting everything except “essential” and statutory services to almost non existence. . Since 2010 the Council has seen its budget slashed by the Tory government as part of its austerity programme brought in by David Cameron following the bailing out of the banks after their greed caused the collapse of the worlds economy. . Earlier this week Rishi Sunak chose to appoint former Prime Minister as the Foreign Secretary. These cuts that Kirklees and many other local authorities are facing are his legacy. . It’s not enough for Labour Councils like Kirklees to passively make the cuts while saying ‘I didn’t come into politics to make cuts’ - Councillors need to either oppose tory austerity and stop the cuts or they are just as bad as the Tory government. This mess was created by the tories but enabled locally.
