Doesn’t look like much yet but I spent an hour sowing @floretflower zinnia seeds every 6” in my raised bed. This is strictly Floret original varieties; Unicorn, Victorian Wedding, Precious Metals, and Dawn Creek Pastels. I also have Alpenglow and Little Flower Girl, but they will be over on the other side of the yard. After leaning over painstakingly trying to sow seeds every 6 inches with a template I made from chipboard, I may have decided that my non-Floret varieties will be getting the toss and stomp method. 😂 We will see how I feel when I get to those. I wish all of my neighbors were as fastidious about their properties as the hard-working immigrant who runs the Chinese restaurant downtown. The plaster recently fell off his building and he’s been working hard to clean and secure and tuck-point, using a wok to mix his mortar! The last 4 months growth on the bare patch of land opposite us! My unsold autumn fair seedlings went into this space, along with others I would have culled due to neglect. So glad I started this flower patch, so many neighbours have complimented it! And wow the seeds I have saved will many gardens come spring. I'm overwhelmed by Mexican sunflower seeds- and I didn't realise they grew so big! The land is council owned and they're planning to sell it in a couple years. I've chucked a few perennials in now such as some Yarrow, statice and a sad artichoke, but limiting myself to the annuals while the cardboard turns our lawn into an insane garden extension. Don't mind the weeds, we whippership occasionally and I pull those in my line of sight when I plant- often using the hole in the earth for the seedling. Also quite often slapping a juicy full mozzie dead with a splat and flicking the corpse into the hole in a satisfying back-to-the-earth ritual. For this reason Sebby has had to stay inside for alot of the last season, bar the beach, as coils, patches and spray haven't deterred the beasts. But finally we are seeing a more permanent lol (though with all the rain coming who knows). I'm enjoying picking seeds with him now, and I love watching his personality bloom. He is truly such a lovely, sweet little baby. Despite our current sleep regression and teething he's such a champion through it. When he's really fighting a change I call Nahla over and he babbles to her while I wrangle the clothes on, a failsafe distractor. Now that he's eating our yummy food more often, (a fan of the spice 😱 loved the prawn laksa that was on the hot end of mild for me!), and dropping it on the floor, Nahla has started to warm to this strange and wonderful creature who makes so much noise! #gardening #zinnias #chaosgarden #flowers #gardengrowth

Happy #nationalgardeningweek. The #bluesky and #sunshine has made me skive off early to potter and spend a few hours in my #garden. It’s not really designed , it’s fairly small, the grass is patchy, it’s urban, under a flight path and really all about the #summer and #plants and #flowers. It’s also been quite neglected over the last few years what with #showgarden fever….my #pottingshed hasn’t looked like this for a while. Many hours of work in there 😊. It makes me #happy. One day I will redesign it … but for now, it’ll do. So, #getoutside in whatever green space you have / are close too and and enjoy and relax. You don’t have to garden, but I find it helps.
