The Hip-Hop and music community abroad has lost one of its greatest architects. Rest in peace to @ricowadedf, 1/3rd of the mighty @organizednoize and founding member of the super talented @dungeonfamily collective. If you’re close enough to know me then you’ll know the impact that Organized Noize has had on me and how the music of The Dungeon Family inspired the creation(s) of a mr.soul. I had the honor many of times of sitting in the basement of the big White House off Cascade, listening to the creation of songs like “So Fresh and So Clean” by @outkast, or “5 Deuce, 4 Trey” by @backbone_dungeon_family_ff100, or the creation of The Dungeon Family album. @sleepybrown invited me to The Dungeon, but it was Rico who welcomed me, and allowed me to be a fly on the wall during many on many studio sessions. He would give me rough cuts of unreleased music to create art to…The Dungeon Family logo that I get to claim, is also a direct byproduct of Rico Wade. He chose it, and MADE SURE I got paid for it. Meeting Rico was the ULTIMATE dream for me, as I knew how important he was to Atlanta music culture. But to have had the opportunity to work with Rico on a variety of projects is still beyond words, and surreal for me. Hated to wake up to the news that @ricowadedf passed away. While in high school alotta my peers wanted to go pro in the workforce or sports, he was one of the people that I wanted to be. I actually figured I too, could discover the “next” @outkast 😆. While that obviously didn’t happen, I’ve borrowed traits of his over the years that has lead to the creation of #AtlantaInfluencesEverything (would never be without him) amongst other great projects that I’ve been blessed to be apart of. *Warning, long post ahead. I hate to do this on a post like this but this is a culture post that needs to said and understood. In a week or so; probably even this week, is the 30th anniversary of “Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik”. Big Boi and Andre are not even really seen on a human level in Atlanta. Almost like they are forgotten because they transcended the city and one of the few rap acts that transcended the genre. The same way Memphis views Elvis, Atlanta views OutKast. But what really made OutKast and the rest of The Dungeon Family tick was three guys. Sleepy Brown, Rico Murray, and the guy pictured Rico Wade. The three of them are better known as Organized Noize. Rico Wade pretty much was OutKast’s Cus D’Amato. He pushed them to greatness. Rico provided so much influence&culture 2 this city and music in general. I feel a little emotional talking about because this year marks 2 makeshift moments in popular black music because “Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik” was a moment for southern hip-hop and TLC’s “CrazySexyCool” was a moment in pop music history and Organized Noize produced the biggest song on the album and probably produced the best overall song on there. Both albums celebrate 30 years this year. Atlanta is a cultural hub but has swayed from its roots a lot. Rico and the rest of Organized Noize don’t get the love they deserved and I know what’s about to happen. It will be great to finally see him recognize (they had a documentary on Netflix a few years ago) but Rico deserved that while he was here. The work Organize Noize put in was important. It’s one thing to mention the production work they did for OutKast, Goodie Mob, Ludacris, and En Vogue; but the Society of Soul “Brainchild” album is the real gem because it’s a R&B artifact.
