So I only managed to get 1 dragon-cat fully finished. And he sold already! I’d like to get some more up in my next restock but with how my restock schedule has been going I decided it might be a better idea to just list up a pre-order listing in my Etsy shop. And in that listing you’ll be able to choose which color dragon you want. But since I don’t have the other 2 finished up you’re probably unsure which color you’d want, do don’t worry! Ever get that feeling you’ve got a hex in you? Because I sure do right now! Trying to get product finished for a restock has been so challenging this year. Hello! Long time no post! So…this month is definitely not going according to plan. I got sick earlier this month and it took awhile to get over it. (Thanks Lupus!) Then I threw my back out. 😖 Needless to say, I’ve gotten no sewing in this month. So it saddens me to say but I won’t be having an Easter restock. Happy March 1st!! This froggie-cat was supposed to be posted up yesterday for Leap Year but I was on the couch all day with a sprained ankle. Oh well, I'm not going to fret. He's up now! . Some March news: I do plan on taking part in @joannehawker #MarchMeetTheMaker2024 post challenge but I haven't even looked over the prompts yet so I'll deal with those later and play catch up with the prompts I like. My brain and body can only focus on 1 thing at a time right now. . And so that leads me to the next thing: I'm again, not even close to being ready for a restock this weekend. Today is National Tell a Fairy Tale Day...which was supposed to be the day of my first big restock of 2024. And of course, things are not going according to my original plan. I wasn't feeling too good last week and I knew I wasn't going to be ready for this on Monday so I figured I'd just get it in mid-week. But then this weekend there was a medical emergency in my husband's family so things have gotten pushed back again. My new goal will be to have the restock on Sunday but I'll have to see how this week goes. Happy Lunar New Year! It's the Year of the Dragon! So about 2 days ago I had a brilliant idea...since I am already planning on making cats in dragon suits for an upcoming restock, I'll just tweak the design and make a version for the Lunar New Year. I have always wanted to make cats based on the Chinese zodiacs so I thought this was perfect timing. Except that I thought of this brilliant idea 2 days ago and there was realistically no way I'd be able to get a prototype done in time for today. 😂 . I think it's sort of fitting the same day we lost Nina is National Squirrel Appreciation Day. We had previously fed the birds and squirrels but after we lost Nina and Elvis, we really started feeding the birds and the squirrels. The squirrels, and some of the more identifiable birds, got names and my husband and I watching them helped us so much through the grief. And plus there might be plans to bring out a squirrel Fat Cat in a restock later on this year...😁 . These pictures though were when I had started to make a Squirrel Girl costume. I was going through my random piles of fabrics and discovered that I had a perfect burnt orange fabric to use for the base of a Squirrel Girl costume. Then I discovered I had tights and boots that would work as well. It seemed like it was meant to be! This was many years ago and I never got around to finishing it. Unhappily, I had to brave the 4 degree weather today and leave my house! I had on so many layers I was amazed I was able to get my coat buttoned. 😂 . Holey moley is it COLD!! If you're in the cold weather, I hope everyone is bundled up. It's like 10 degrees here, with the windchill way below that. And I know others have it way worse than that. I feel so bad for my poor little birdies and squirrelies! The birds just keep getting blown away. Happy Thursday all! The super cold crappy weather has been doing a number on my arthritis so I've been down a lot this week. But that's giving me time to sort out my plans for the year. I've been parked on the couch with my laptop and a heating pad on my knee much of this week. My original plan was to go more simple with an easier restock schedule for the year. But that quickly went out the window and this might be my most ambitious yearly game-plan yet! 😂 . There were just too many ideas flying around in my head to narrow down so I'm just going for it! Even if I get just a fraction of this done I'll be giving myself a huge pat on the back. . I've scheduled in 1-2 restocks monthly (excluding January) with lots of new pincushion designs planned. With one of those restocks being 100% new everything! But I didn't stop there! I even scheduled in 3 new non-pincushion products! Happy 2024! We made it! I had planned to post this up yesterday but apparently my computer wasn't ready to come back to work yet. 😂 . Now that the holidays are over it's back to business, with a working computer to boot! Time to start setting things up for the new year and planning out those new Fat Cats! Though honestly I don't think I'm going to be straying much from my 2023 plan. I had plans for some exciting new things in that year, before everything went off the rails. So I'm hoping to just tweak some stuff and implement that for this year. I do know I need to cut back on my hand-sewing because it's just getting too hard (10+ years of hand-sewing plus Lupus has really started to take its toll). And I had never felt a burnout like I did last year so I know I need to switch up stuff. It's terrifying to know I have to sway somewhat from my pincushions but realistically I know it needs to be done. But rest assured I'm not giving them up totally! I just need to factor in some new products that aren't so dependent on hand-sewing. And I have some ideas! . The plan for the first quarter of the year is to figure out all my stuff: prototypes to be made, new collections to debut, restock dates, etc. So I won't be having any traditional restocks until probably Easter. I will be posting up all my Valentine and St. Paddy items as made-to-order products though. That way I can still focus on the prototypes that need to be done along with getting your orders out. . Oh boy this week was a doozy! Started off with a sinus issues, ended with a possible stomach bug and sandwiched in the middle was taking my husband to his kidney doctor appointment and taking my mom and aunt grocery/Christmas shopping. 😵 Needless to say, not much got done. But I'm going to have to go with it...even if I only get 1 item completed...there will be a restock on Tuesday evening! It will be very small but I can't really push it back any further. This month is already just about halfway through! . Which mean that because the restock is happening so late this year any order that comes from the 2 international countries I ship to (Canada and Australia) won't make it by Christmas. I'm sorry, this was just the best I could do this year. . And then shortly after the restock I'll be putting my shop into vacation mode for the year. So this will be it. I'm going to see what I can finish up Monday and Tuesday, then have the restock Tuesday evening and then shut up shop when I wake up Thursday morning (that should be the 14th). . The orders that come in on Tuesday/ earlier Wednesday will be getting shipped out Wednesday/Thursday and any order that comes in later after I go to bed Wednesday night/early Thursday morning will go out by Friday, which will be before the USPS cutoff date. But as I'm sure you all know, once it's in the hands of the postal worker there's nothing I can do. . Happy Tuesday! Time is just flying by isn't it? So yes, I need to get moving on my restock inventory! . Good news/bad news again. Good news: I will be having my next restock on Small Business Saturday. Bad news: I think it's going to be pretty small and will only have Christmas/winter items in it. Happy Monday! Good news is I’m back in my sewing room! Bad news is I’m a week behind. ☹️ I was supposed to start sewing last Monday but this room was too messy to do anything in. I don’t think I had properly put anything away since my husband’s medical emergency. And that was 2 years ago! My Facebook memories are showing me that 8 years ago today I left my library job to chase the Fat Cat dream and start making pincushions full-time. Leaving the library (and my amazing co-workers…one of which who gave me this inspirational parting gift 😁) was one of the scariest things I ever did. I just remember thinking as I walked out of the building the last time, did I really just leave a guaranteed paycheck to make pincushion cats?? 😂 I can't lie it hasn't all been rainbows and unicorns these past years, there's always been a constant ride of highs and lows and this year has definitely taken its toll on me. Holy moly it’s October!! I got a bit behind last week, again. I was on mom/aunt duty Tuesday then stayed the night because I had my Rheumatologist appointment the next day. And got a flu shot which always makes me sick for a few days. Anyone else feel like poo when they get their flu shot? Or is it just a Lupus thing? . Anyways I got back up in my sewing room this weekend and am sewing again. First priorities are still the custom orders. And then…Halloween restock items! I will be having a restock this week but I don’t know when. Right now all I know that will be included in it are these 5 ghostie cats. I have fabric labels!!!!! The orders from the Woodland restock will not have to get paper labels! . My husband had bought me a new printer years ago and it’s just been sitting in a box this whole time. I HATE change so I’ve been stubborn and stuck with my old printer. Which now gives me panic attacks everytime I want to print something because it’s really old and has been struggling lately. I finally broke down and let my husband set up the new one and oh my goodness, it’s lovely! I forgot how quiet a printer can be! 😂 This new one easily printed on this fabric paper. I had 2 sheets left so I just printed them both up. Which means I now how plenty of labels to make it through Halloween! Score! 🎃 . Though now I need to find new fabric sheets. This was the last from my beloved Pat Catan’s and I can’t find this brand anymore.
