Happy Anniversary ❤️ to my Dearest Jessica Mae. Today is a special day. 11 years married and 14 years together. We feel grateful and blessed 🙏🏼 amongst other deep and powerful emotions. It’s a day of reflection. We love to travel together, experience cuisine together, sip on local wines together, quietly sit in a service or mass in a church far away in a crack of earth together and experience the journey and the beauty together. A couple years ago, we left something precious behind late at night and had an early flight out the next day. ❤️ Thank you to @thecarlaanderson for capturing this moment last night over cooking dinner in our home. Relationships, specifically marriage, always take effort and intention. People grow (or recess…) and life is an ever-evolving journey of the unexpected- despite your “plans”. Our life together is an example of that. It was really hard for a while, and it was unexpected. But with a little foundation (God, healthy eating, regular exercise), our support systems, our families, investment into educating ourselves and each other, doing the work and complete vulnerability with each other and willingness to own our side of the fence - we came out stronger. It’s really hard work. But it’s really rewarding. And the issues that used to affect our less wise selves are now barely something to even discuss. Some people still discuss them though… We lost a few “friends” along the way. Some people are happier when you are falling to pieces. It gives them more to talk about. They move on when you are finding your way rather than raise you up and ask how you got through it. These are invaluable lessons learned. They build your temple and strengthen your resolve. This image captures what Jessica Mae and I now do best. Cook together? Yes… but moreover, supply love, encouragement, a job well done, kisses and hugs and a safe haven at home full of love where our little world’s biggest fears and problems fizzle away. It’s where we craft our dreams and plan our next move - together. The two of us. While I could talk for pages about disciplines and boundaries and learning tools, I am certainly far from having any answers. My best advice (if asked) is to grow your relationship with (your) God first and he’ll grow the others for you. Make the hard choices first - not the easy ones. Never stop doing the work & evolving. Enjoy the ride along the way. Life will unfold like a field of flowers.

Some friendships just begin, and no matter where you go in life or how long in between you see each other - they grow stronger. More than a decade ago, I met Nicola through the couch surfing website in Minneapolis. He was working there for a couple of years for his Italian company in the durum wheat business. We met over coffee through a couch surfing event and the friendship began. This was at the very beginning of my relationship with @msjessicamaekoza. We spent a couple of years hanging out with Nicola and many late Friday/Saturday nights at the W Hotel @wminneapolis downtown. Eventually he moved back to Italy. A decade later, we spent the entire day together TODAY in Bellagio with him, his wife Carmen, and her cousin Claudia. It was like yesterday and no time had passed at all. Another Michelin Guide experience on the books. When you think they couldn’t get any better, let me tell you.… they absolutely do. We were lucky to have this journey tonight. Borgo San Jacopo Ristorante (@borgosanjacopo) was booked for a month + out. We spoke to our concierge at Ponte Vecchio Suites and he managed to get us in at 9:30 PM. We are back from dinner now at 1am and we could not be more grateful. This culinary journey with a wine pairing was indescribable. The staff and specifically our various servers were impeccable down to every detail. They immersed us in their space, the view and their knowledge of the wine regions an food that they paired with. It was exquisite. Side note. The restaurant, the hotel it sits in and a few surrounding properties are all owned by Salvatore Ferragamo (the fashion designer). The art work in the space was so interesting that we had to ask and they are pieces from the family’s collections. In fact every employee has to wear at least one Ferragamo piece to work every day.
