Reading & Journaling update… . Somehow over the last couple of months my reading has been really slow or more precisely put my reading suffered as I have been excessively journaling… had too much on my mind. About 2 months ago I started Morning Pages…3 pages of long hand writing first thing in the morning, this was really time consuming taking me 30-45 minutes each morning and a few days ago I realised that I need to re-think this…as I am really missing my books…cause reading is one of the things that really makes me happy and books are my very personal happy retreat. . Having said all this…in this whole time, I have still been reading everyday but not as deeply and as long as I would normally do. I would perhaps just read 15-20 mins a day and that is the equivalent to nothing to me. And as a mom of a 3 year old there is only so much time on my hands…so if one of the two have to come shorter than I think it definitely will have to be journaling. Loving books way too much. . At the moment I am having 3 books on the go, one is a re-read, one a current fiction and the other for deep reading: How to Know God: The Yoga Aphorisms of Patanjali, let‘s close off this post with a quote from him that I really like and believe in. “Whatever we truly and purely worship, we make sacred.“ I believe in that. . “We begin to live only when we learn to descend into ourselves…” . This was my third Colin Wilson book and quite different to the other two books. If the first was about stating the ‘Outsiders’ problem and the second about philosophy, this one had spiritual undertones to it. . If I had to summarise it, I would say the book is about how we are trapped in and live most of the time through the aid of our left brain and thus only access a thin slice of reality. If we would through the aid of deep relaxation in combination with focused concentration slow down the activity of our left brain so that the right brain could come to the foreground and play an equal share to the left brain in guiding us through life, the right brain would add a third dimension to our experience. We would have a richer and far more accurate experience of life and of reality. Our right brain would also gently nudge us towards decisions and actions that are good for us. Decisions and actions that we would otherwise perhaps never take and make. . In a way it reminds me of quietening the external noise and really listening to your deepest and truest inner voice. Like taking your instructions from within, having an inner compass, being inner directed. The above quote reminds me of a sentiment that Hermann Hesse expressed in the beginning pages of Demian. . This was my second Colin Wilson book and I quite enjoyed it, even though at some point I felt it got really complicated, particularly chapter two and three where he mainly talked about some philosophers with whose works I am not at all familiar yet like Husserl, Hume, Satre and some others but then gradually it got better again and my understanding of the book gradually increased but not to a level where I would dare to write a full review on it. These are just some of my loose, fragmented thoughts and first impressions of the book. For a full authentic review, a deeper reading for a deeper understanding and maybe some background information would be required. This was at times quite a challenging read for me but I still quite enjoyed it. It makes me crave for more of Colin Wilsons books. . Maybe at some point I will be able to write at a deeper level about this book.
