To bee or not to bee? I picked up a hexagonal mirror a few months back which got me thinking on carving a bee in a similar style to the birds I have done recently. I'd never entertain cutting a mirror hexagonally I have enough trouble with squares! But one came my way so I dutifully made it a rescued oak frame which was trouble enough 😂 and today after sitting on the sideboard for months I got to looking a loads of frankly terrifying close up images of bees today to figure out a pose that pleased me (sketching from life might be a challenge) It's tempting to go with a nice fluffy cute bumbler but they don't make honey / live in hexagons. For repeat patterns like this, I always make sure the pattern is centered on the collar so you don't get just the bee bum. A closer look at the honeybee swarm we found in the Slough last Sunday. After leaving an established hive with the queen, this crew wait in a "swarm" while scouts look for a new permanent home. (Their old hive is still in business. A "princess" female there was promoted to queen once the swarm departed... presumably for greener pastures.) It's likely that this swarm will be here only for a short time. As soon as the scouts return after picking a new site, the whole mass will pack up and move on. They could be here for 20 minutes or 20 hours. In any case, beekeepers have to move quickly. Uitați că se poate. La Arad. Se poate ca administrația publică să gândească și altfel, „în afara cutiei” și să decidă să răspundă crizei biodiversității printr-o soluție pe care o are la îndemână, o soluție simplă și foarte eficientă – înlocuirea gazonului sterp și consumator de resurse cu pajiști urbane pline de flori sălbatice. Chiar și dacă e un gest electoral, acest exemplu este foarte important și merită promovat pentru faptul că deschide conversații (necesare) despre această soluție, pe care deja o cerem și noi deja la nivelul Guvernului, ca parte a unui plan mai amplu de măsuri pentru atenuarea declinului insectelor polenizatoare în țara noastră. I spent a day in the garden yesterday so expect bee pics. 🐝🐝🐝 Leafcutter Bee - flower Salvia candlesticks. This one was a new one for me. A solitary bee - Megachile macularis (female) and according to the @wheenbeefoundation unlike honey bees, solitary bees don’t need to feed a large community. A female solitary bee only collects enough pollen to feed one offspring at a time. This means she can simply scrabble pollen from flowers and pack the dry pollen grains straight into her specialised hairs, called scopa. These dry pollen grains remain exposed to the reproductive parts of the flower as she moves over the flower. To Bee or not to Bee Brand: JaCaRou Artist: Anie Maltais Pieces: 1000 Final Time: 3h5m Believe it or not, my first ever puzzle from JaCaRou! It surprises me because I have loved basically every piece of puzzle art from Anie that I've ever seen. It's truly right up my alley with the bright colors and crisp lines. First off, I've got to give some points here for a very respectable title pun. I also loved the theme of this one (I seem to be on a 🐝 kick this year 🤷) and the colors were perfect. It was probably an easy/medium puzzle overall - it moved along nicely but nothing was too easy. The red flowers and honeycombs in the top center part of the image were the biggest challenge for me. The puzzle is in many ways perfect. The box cover has a nice sized full image and the pieces come in a resealable plastic bag. The colors are vibrant. The pieces are thick with a standard cardboard backing. The cut is a standard grid cut, but with more visually distinct shapes and connectors than average. As such, I didn't have any false fits. The fit is perfect, medium/tight, easy to pick up but also not hard to disassemble. The only downside for me is that it has a smooth finish and is very glossy. This puzzle actually took me several days to complete because I couldn't work it too long without getting a headache from the glare. So that's kind of a bummer but I'd still like to try more from them, maybe it'd be less bad in better weather/lighting conditions? Have you done puzzles from JaCaRou? What did you think? THE BEEKEEPER (2024) | 15 | action | 105 minutes | NEW MOVIE REVIEW The latest ‘one-man-army-with-a-particular-set-of-skills’ action flick, The Beekeeper sees Jason Statham burning a criminal organisation to the ground when his elderly friend falls victim to one of their scams. With impressive action scenes and corny, self-serious dialogue galore, The Beekeeper is a fun throwback to the cheesy action films of the 90s, in that you can’t tell if it is brilliant or awful. Jason Statham proves he’s still got it, delivering all his own stunts, and the inciting incident that sets the plot in motion is simplistic enough for anyone to get on board with, even if it does escalate to wonderfully stupid heights. There are some missed opportunities here: Jeremy Irons’ name in the opening credits sparked excitement for a Hans Gruber- (or, more appropriately, Simon Gruber-)level villain, only for him to be restricted to a supporting role; and, for the B-rate movie it is, and not that it wasn’t brutal, The Beekeeper could’ve benefited from some more gratuitous levels of violence. It’s not complex or unique, but The Beekeeper knows exactly what sort of movie it is: a reliably familiar premise that allows for some kick-ass action fun. Bier et symbol på moralsk dyd?🐝🐝 Kære Alle, Det er længe siden jeg har haft tid til også at skrive noget spændende her, men i dag har jeg tid og vil servere en meget spændende læsning til alle bee-lovers🤲🏼🐝🐝 …i oktober var jeg en smut i Rome og bl.a. forbi Barberini National Museet. Til min stor glæde så jeg forskellige steder på facaden bier🐝, hvilket gjorde at jeg fik undersøgt lidt om hvad er det det gik ud på. De første to billeder, efter billedet af mine bi-øreringe er taget af mig og resten af billederne er lånt fra nettet🤓 Hermed lidt af hvad jeg fandt og ellers find linket nedenunder = artiklen er meget meget spændende🐝 "Ligesom andre væsner, der finder sig selv udsmykke billedrammer - ofte på toppen, hjørnerne eller midten af en trofæramme - har bien en ret lang historie. I modsætning til de hunde, orner og hjorte, der findes omkring jagtemner, eller det marine liv på fiskeribilleder, har bien, på trods af sin relativt uimponerende størrelse, befundet sig i nærvær af paver og kejsere I det første tilfælde skyldtes det, at en kardinal – Maffeo Barberini (1568-1644), hvis familie stammede fra Barberino Val d'Elsa, nær Firenze – blev valgt til pave Urban VIII i 1623 og forblev i den apostoliske stol i tyve- et år: et ret stort stykke tid, hvor han formåede at skabe yderligere tre Barberini-kardinaler og berige familien enormt.
