When Mother Nature creates a perfect replica of a moody ocean scape in the form of a #owyhee blue opal. This ring makes me want to step over the sterling threshold and onto that deserted beach, to feel the cold sand between my toes and the wind on my face and in my hair. There is something so starkly beautiful about the ocean when there’s a storm heading to shore, and the clear horizon suddenly darkens as storm clouds gather. I miss my summer trips to Old Orchard Beach when life was spontaneous and oh so less complicated! A few weeks ago we flew out to Florida to visit family. Instead of flying out of Albany like we normally would, each ticket was over $250 less if we flew out of Boston, which is about 3 hours away. So that's what we did. On the way back, we decided to spend a couple of days in Boston, but all felt so depleted when we got into our hotel, we just sort of mucked about in Salem for a few days before driving home. While the weather wasn't ideal for a vacation (especially after being in Florida for a bit), I ducked out quickly at one point to take a look at one of the old lighthouses at a place called Fort Pickering. It was raining pretty steadily and I couldn't get my camera out of some weird art filter shooting mode (it's been happening a lot when I leave the camera off for a week or two straight), but after five minutes of non-stop cursing in the drenching horizontal rain, the mode selector on the EVF finally showed "A", to match the selector dial for aperture priority, and I was back in business for like 5 min. I didn't even look at the shots I frantically took until weeks later, but some of them came out really well (at least I'm somewhat happy with them). Here's one of the first two I shot before I really settled into a composition that felt more balanced. I just like this one because of the intense light that broke through the dark clouds for a brief moment and lit the light house and a solitary seagull in the sky.
