One of the perks of being a traveling sales rep is having the ability to visit so many fun and interesting places. This past week I found myself in the Central Valley- specifically Fresno and Visalia. Being born in Fresno, I do hold a very special place in my heart for my hometown. As I drove the roads I experienced so much nostalgia- the pang of memories of times past, and the serenity of knowing this unique place will always hold my affection. I’ve always called it “dirt smell”, but it’s the dust in the air that’s kicked up by all the farming. I love it. Can’t get enough of it. It’s one of those potent smells from my youth, and when I smell it, I’m immediately taken back to being young and racing big wheels with my sister at my grandparent’s house, or waiting for my Grandpa to get finished in the vineyards so we could go swimming. I have experienced such peace the last couple of days being in this magical area. I was driving along the highways 99 and 41 and feeling warmth for the amount of small towns that pepper along the highway- the people are kind, smiles greet you everywhere you go, and these little towns have so much to offer. So- if you are ever driving along these highways through the greater Fresno area, stop by some of the old downtowns- Fresno, Easton, Fowler, Kingsburg, Selma, Visalia.
