The Biosphere is a museum in Montreal dedicated to the environment. Having confused it with the Biodome (where we spent most of the day), my cousin and I rushed to see the Biosphere on our last night in Montreal. Although the museum was closed, the Biosphere nighttime lighting display was the highlight of our trip, watching it change colors in the dark and seeing the reflections in the water. The Biosphere was originally constructed as the United States pavilion at Expo 67, The 1967 International and Universal Exposition, which exhibited a variety of artifacts, including spacecraft, folk art and Hollywood memorabilia. Like most countries at the Expo, the United States donated its pavilion to the City of Montreal for the Man and His World exhibition. The pavilion opened in 1968 as an aviary and arboretum. The Biosphere was severely damaged in 1976 and remained closed until 1990. It reopened in 1995 as an interactive environment museum. To some, catching an Uber from Paris to Versailles at 5:30 in the morning might seem a little odd... I'm glad Garrett puts up with my antics 🙈 Wandering the grounds for sunrise and having the whole place to ourselves was surreal! Being one of the first few people to enter the palace at when they opened and enjoying many of the areas completely alone... it was magical! My photographer heart got to take so many photos I had only ever dreamt of and no AI or photoshop was needed to remove people which seems like a rarity these days! Honestly I don't know if arriving and starting our adventure before sunrise was early enough! We spent the entire day exploring and still didn't see all there was to see! We covered the grounds and double checked our map. Enjoyed the gardens and collections of beautiful trees, and we walked about 14 hours until we couldn't walk any more. Versailles was a bucket list place to see for me, I cried multiple times at the sheer opulence. Our love reminds us of a passage in Sunset on the Manyatta by Kenyan author Kenneth Watene: “Have you ever wondered why it was that we felt so free with each other? I suppose......It would seem as if you were a spirit that originally belonged to the same realm with my spirit, and our meeting was the rejoining of a splintered one.” On Angie’s special day I wanted to reflect on words I wrote in 2016 for our autobiography The Big Cat Man: “Talented artist that she is, Angie also has that wonderful gift of making wherever she settles into a home, of being able to convert mere bricks and mortar - soulless entities in themselves - into a repository for a rich tapestry of quilts and cushions, carpets and sofas, photographs and paintings, a place that breathes life, warmth and love. Some pictures from the Night Food Market in Kota Kinabalu. What a place. Visiting markets is one of my favourite things to do when on holiday. It's such a great glimpse into the local life and usually an attack on all senses....but I always feel a bit uncomfortable taking pictures. The market stall owners are there to make a living and the chances of me buying a whole raw fish are very very slim. And tbh I wouldn't want to be photographed all the time when working, so I usually take a few quick shots and move on. Grande Ziraldo! Tantas histórias, tantos cruzamentos em nossas vidas! Estreei no teatro, aos 14 anos, protagonista de "Flicts" na personagem Branco, com direção de Aracy Cardoso. Tempos depois, já como profissional, atuei como a cor azul, em uma montagem de Paulo Afonso de Lima.Aprendi com Ziraldo também a afirmar o meu nome de arte: Ricardo Schöpke; pois ele dizia sempre quando lhe perguntavam, em início de sua carreira, quem ele era, e ele falava: "Eu sou o Ziraldo". Não precisa dizer mais nada! Ele era, e será para sempre o Ziraldo! Nessa foto, vivemos um momento delicado em Cartagena da Índias, na Colômbia, quando fui impedido de viajar para montar a exposição, em inglês, que idealizei para os 30 Anos de Trajetória Literária da Acadêmica Ana Maria Machado, pela ocasião do recebimento do seu Nobel da Literatura Infantojuvenil - Prêmio Hans Christian Andersen. Ziraldo fez de tudo para conseguir me colocar no avião, não fui possível, mas depois da odisséia enfrentada, ele me abraçou fervorosamente após eu conseguir chegar lá! Ele era grande! Ele era imenso! Obrigado Ziraldo! Você será eterno para mim e para a arte gráfica e literária mundial!
