• Melrose Abbey • Melrose has to be one of my favourite towns in the borders, it’s always beautiful no matter the weather and it’s so easy just to take a day trip to. The Abbey has been under construction for a while now which has meant that for all the trips I’ve taken over I’ve not been able to get inside, but that hasn’t stopped me snapping away 📸 Gorgeous and steeped in history, it’s worth going to see regardless of the renovation works. And with the town being home to lots of independently run little businesses it’s really nice just to stop in and take a break from busy weekdays with a wee moment of calm. there is no shortage of places that truly take your breath away in Scotland... these were captured during a 10 day highlands getaway we had in February this year, the only downside to visiting the Pink House along Loch Glass was that we didn’t have enough time here, easily could’ve spent the whole day!! The entire walk there is stunning, with views in every direction and the sun was sparkling on all the little sprinkles of snow through the forest. And I think the house just speaks for itself, what a beauty but also a shame it’s in ruins. We had fun skimming rocks & laying in the sun after taking off the way too many layers we were wearing… and then a long walk back to the car (well long for Ryan because he was carrying both kids while I kept snapping photos 😂). It wasn’t quite as snowy as this in the Cairngorms on Saturday, but it was definitely more wintry than the west coast! We ticked off our last Munro over east - Beinn Mheadhoin - a hill that’s eluded us more than once, both times in deep winter conditions as a part of longer multi-hill routes. Ben Nevis in Fort William, Scotland 🏴 At 4,413 ft (or 1,345m), Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in Scotland, the United Kingdom and the British Isles. 🏴 I was in Fort William last week because my partner was racing, so thought I'd give Ben Nevis a go. Being something of a couch potato, and having jiggered my knee doing Ben Lomond the week previously, I was only aiming to get about halfway up. Surprisingly, I actually made it onto the summit plateau but, frustratingly, with the end in close sight, I couldn't complete the last little bit because the ground there was steep and covered in compact snow that my shoes just weren't able to get a grip on. Having a realisitc sense of my own abilities, I decided that bit wasn't safe without crampons and came back down. 🏴 I might not have technically finished, but I'm still proud of how far I got. Knowing I can actually get that high now, I'm hoping to return in the summer when there will be less snow, and next time I'll know to bring crampons too just in case. In the meantime, I'm at home resting my knee and also tending to the sunburn I somehow managed to acquire. In Scotland. In April 😅 🏴

Goatfell from the mountain indicator viewpoint on the Brodick to Lamlash walk. At 874 metres (2,867 ft), it is one of four Corbetts on the island. Goatfell summit views on a clear day are magnificent with panoramic views across the dramatic granite ridges. The mountain, along with nearby Brodick Castle, is now owned by the National Trust for Scotland. From the boat you can head along the promenade before picking up the Fisherman’s walk and subsequently one of the Goatfell ascent routes.
