The way turns, turns again, ascends, descends, reaching the top of surprising waterfalls, landing in those landings below the avalanches of light facilitated by the Tyndall effect. April appropriately finished with a couple of days that can, at best, only be described as dreich! To be fair yesterday started out bright & the tourist shot of Blackrock Cottage had to be taken 🤣 this was en route to the Northeast Ridge of Stob a’ Ghlais Choire, one of my few remaining Munro Tops. My years of exploring blanket bogs came in very useful for getting there including negotiating various areas of pools created as part of peatland restoration (not everyone’s cup of tea but I found it interesting 🤣) but the route itself was superb. Grade 1 all the way on grippy igneous rock, very deserving of the stars it had in the guidebook. The snow started falling as soon as I reached the top of the scramble & this soon became rain. I visited Creise & Meall a’ Bhuiridh (via Clach Leathad just to be sure!) & by the time I was at the ski centre it was as wet as it can be without being a waterfall. A long schlep over the WHW to Kinlochleven followed, drying out then to the pub. I had grand plans for today but woke to a forecast that had gone downhill quite dramatically. Up on the hill this was very accurate & I took a good soaking visiting the eastern outliers of the Mamores, Sgùrr Eilde Mòr & Binnein Beag. Not fancying the higher & narrower ground of the main part of the Mamores in the wet & 50mph gusts this afternoon I decided to save my energy for the better weather apparently on its way 🤞 tomorrow I start heading east into the Central Highlands. #Munros #BlackrockCottage #Glencoe #scrambling #MunroTops #WestHighlandWay #ContinuousMunroRound #getoutside #thegreatoutdoors #exploremore #WalkHighlands
C + A's elopement in early April was my first Glencoe elopement of 2024, and it was a wonderful feeling to be back in the area that I know so intimately and have so much history with - including my own elopement a few years ago! The day started at the famous Kingshouse Hotel - in a way the gateway to the Glencoe valley - before we headed the short distance to the little white hut to conduct a beautiful and intimate ceremony in the presence of C + A's closest family. With C + A's marriage sealed with a traditional hand fasting ceremony, we headed to Glen Etive and spent the rest of the day exploring the secluded valley, whether it be the banks of a loch or the depths of a forest, until the last of the evening light started to fade. A truly beautiful elopement, with a wonderful couple and in the very best of settings! I am recently back from a short holiday/vacation and now start a busy period of elopements through May and June, starting this week with two trips to Glencoe! The most perfect break at @woodlands.scot Hands down the best dog-friendly place we’ve ever stayed at. Incredible views, the lodge was spacious inside and out, we had our own hot tub (mum wouldn’t let me have a dip - rude), and the breakfast basket was the cutest. Would recommend this place to anyone (regardless of of whether you have a furry friend or not). 10/10. ⛰️🐶🐻♥️
