It took me a while to decide on this beautiful #RiflePaperCo canvas for the covers and then a few more weeks to hand-sew the back and side panels and make a cover for the cushion. Barbie themed wheelchair armrest covers?! In Barbie month?! OUTSTANDING ๐๐ป๐ฆฝ๐ฉทโจ๏ธโ๏ธ๐ Ya girl has crocheted some new armrest covers for her @trekinetic GTE, Gaia ๐๐ค๐ป and let me tell you, these babies are FLUORESCENT! So much so, it's been incredibly difficult to snap a photo of them, as the bright pink is too much for my poor phone to process ๐ I used not one, not two, but THREE different yarns making these! Tim, a wheelchair user since 2018, could not be happier with his @Trekinetic wheelchair to get him about. 'I live right next to Hackney and Walthamstow marshes, my personal gateway to the wonderful Lea Valley regional park. Before my legs went (in 2018), I used to walk a lot there. And I'd been involved for years in a community tree project which I loved. My Trekinetic has got me out & about again in the muddy & tussocky marshes, and pottering in the community forest garden. Not to speak of negotiating the not-always-perfectly-smooth pavements & 'dropped' kerbs of Hackney. Lately, I've been negotiating with the Walthamstow Marsh rangers to redesign a kissing gate so I can get into a wild watermeadow. In a couple of weeks, I'll be leading a walk around the marshes for the London area of CPRE. In July we had our first break outside of London with the chair and stayed in Hastings at the top of West Hill. If you know Hastings, you'll recognise that's a tribute to the Trekinetic's hill-climbing. It tucks nicely into the wheelchair space on London buses. I find it easier to turn inside the bus and reverse into the space than a conventional hand-chair. And it gets admiring comments every time I take it out -- often from mountain bikers who appreciate tough wheels and good suspension'

๐It's been a scorcher this summer!๐ So here are some tips on how to stay cool in your wheelchair; 1) Make sure to stay hydrated - Avoid Ice cold water as this can make you feel hotter. 2) Stay out of direct sunlight as much as you can. - If you are in the sun, don't forget to wear suncream! 3) Plan your day around the hottest parts of the day - The last thing you want is to be baking in the sun waiting for your ride home. 4) Grab a cooling pad - Placing a cooling pad on your wheelchair seat can make sitting in it a much more comfortable experience, or, place cooling pads on your pulse points. 5) Wear lighter clothing - Lightweight and loose-fitting clothing can help to stop any heat from being trapped around your body. Consider packing a spare set of clothes on hotter days so that you can change if you get a little too sweaty! 6) Adjust how you're sitting periodically - If you are able to, moving can stop heat from building up where you're sitting. 7) Attach an electric fan to your chair - The great thing about being in a wheelchair is you can mount a fan to it so you get a constant breeze, but your hands remain free. Hopefully, these tips can help you to keep cool, even when the weather has other ideas!๐ฅต
