Here’s my breakfast and dinner for the past three days. I had two eggs +2 egg yolks, a side of sardines with extra butter. I have really gotten used to eating sardines at this point. I actually enjoy them now. Is crazy that a year ago I would help my nose to try and chew them up and eat them. 😆 Yesterday I had shredded beef with two fried eggs on top and a tablespoon of cream cheese. It was absolutely delicious.🤤 also, have to add a couple of cute pictures of my little boy Ronan.

Our health is tanking and nobody is talking about it. Sure, some people are aware of the decline, but few people realize how bad it actually is. Something is poisoning everybody, and I want to figure out what it is. What might the cause be? I believe that our mitochondria is being poisoned. The metabolism is the sum of all the energetic reactions in the body, and a measure of how well our mitochondria are functioning. In the last 2 decades, average body temperature, a good way to measure our metabolism, has declined as much as it did over the prior 200 years. We live in a modern, shiny, zoo -- the absolute worst possible environment for humans to thrive, with thousands of toxins bombarding us every single day, including many of the things we're told are good for us. I believe diet is the foundation, but some of the biggest factors go well beyond food intake. Something has gone terribly wrong and I want to figure out what it is. It’s sad but it’s inevitable…. At some point into vegan diet, your mineral and nutrient reserves will diminish and your health will decrease over time. WHAT TO SNACK... Long-term, we don’t really need snacks on a meat-based diet (same goes for any low-carb diet). 🎢If you fuel your body with fat, you don’t constantly feel the glucose-insulin rollercoaster and this manifests as less hanger. But sometimes we do want to snack. Sometimes because of old rituals. 💡These meat-based snacks have been very helpful as temporary foods while transitioning to a fat-adapted state. They also helped with on-the-go meals. ⛑You can read the pro-tips based on food sensitivities I’ve found with my research and seen with my meat-based clients. If you don’t have any of these issues, find the snacks that work best for you. 🐂For beef sticks, I stick to grass fed with the least amount of additives and carbs. 🐖For pork rinds, stick to the baked varieties or the brands that cook their rinds in tallow or avocado oil (if you can tolerate). I don’t recommend too many if you’re trying to lose weight or trying to normalize your stools. Cured meats are ideal with fewer additives. 🥚Hard boiled eggs: I like to take them right out of the fridge and then eat them at room temp at lunch. Sometimes I use high-quality olive oil or whipped butter as a dip to moisten the egg yolk. 🐟Canned meats: stick to wild-caught with the canned varieties. Technically, gram for gram, magnesium IS higher in almonds. ⚠️But this is where in nutrition, context matters (and what is rarely shared in standard nutritional care). 💦Many argue that if we soak and sprout nuts, they are safer to eat, as many of the antinutrients are removed. 📖It’s true to a certain extent (but not fully) and why I shared a chapter in @CarnivoreCure about the proper preparation of plant-base foods (chapter 7). ⛔️In 2007, after 2 salmonella outbreaks from almonds, the FDA, USDA and the Almond Board of California proposed mandatory sterilization of almonds. And it passed. ⚠️Most of the almonds in the U.S. and Canada, even raw almonds, are now pasteurized but can still be listed as raw. ☣️Typical farmers use propylene oxide (PPO) to sterilize almonds (pasteurize)—a chemical classified by the EPA as a probable human carcinogen. 🚨PPO is banned in the EU, Mexico and many other countries. But PPO is used on many other nuts, spices and cocoa powder. 👨🏼‍🌾Raw farmers can steam treat their almonds but many use the PPO variety. ⚠️And steam treating is not technically raw. ⚠️And this doesn’t even consider the water burden of growing almonds or the GMO variety that uses herbicides like glyphosate. ❗️Add to this all the antinutrients in almonds—especially lectins, phytates, oxalates and FODMAPs, it’s hard to say how much magnesium is even being absorbed. ❗️These antinutrients are infamous for causing leaky gut and gut damage (gut permeability that can lead to autoimmune disease). 🛡These antinutrients are notorious for binding to minerals to stop absorption of minerals such as iron and calcium. ⛑So sure, 3.5 ounces of salmon may have less magnesium then 105 almonds but considering all things, I’ll stick to nutrient-dense, bioavailable salmon. 💡PS. Another telling piece of anatomy... An ape has a small head. Humans have huge heads. Why are these telling pieces of anatomy? The Expensive Tissue Hypothesis tells of an important tradeoff: Our brain weighs 5X what you’d expect for a mammal our size. It uses 20% of our daily energy expenditure, burning calories at 10X the rate of the body as a whole. (...it takes a lot of energy to fire nerve cells and pump ions across cell membranes) But humans don’t burn more calories than is expected of a mammal our size. We have an energy budget that we must balance, and the brain takes a huge chunk of that balance. Thus, we have a conundrum, the brain's huge energy expenditure must be offset by something else. The gut took the fall. If you add our gut and our brain together, their summed weight is what you'd predict for a mammal our size. The energy saved by a smaller gut, made possible by energy dense food (i.e. meat) compensates for that required by our large brains. Humans sacrifice gut size and the ability to process plant material for a big brain that facilitates hunting success via intelligence, language, tool- / weapon-making, and cooperation. TL;DR We aren't the biggest, fastest, or strongest animal, but by sacrificing our large plant-processing gut we could fuel an outsized brain with meat - the tradeoff (gut for brain) that catapulted us to the top of the food chain. If you care about animal cruelty and animal health, eat more steak. The second order consequences of the vegan diet are hard for most people to grasp. Because an animal with big, cute eyes isn’t killed, many assume that it’s more ethical. However, the titanic sum of animals killed to preserve a nutrient deficient, vegan lifestyle is gruesome. First, the soil tilling process is like a tsunami, destroying all life in its path. To clear the soil to plant crops, farmers must till the soil. This kills any animals residing there. How do you think farmers defend crops for the green smoothies, salad and avocado toast? Farmers spray fields with pesticides to kill off even more insects. Not only do these pesticides decimate insect life, they’re also very damaging to human health. To make matters worse, many farmers shoot predators sight on seen. It is estimated that 25x more animals die to produce an equal weight of wheat protein than beef protein. One of the most lucrative sources of beekeeper revenue is now “renting out” farms to almond producers. And similar to war, this process is decimating the bee population. A recent survey of commercial beekeepers showed that 50 billion bees – more than seven times the world’s human population – were wiped out in a few months during winter 2018-19 To be clear, I despise cramped feedlots and in no way is that what I advocate for. But I do believe grass fed, pasture raised cows is the most sustainable form of agriculture. The best part: just 1 cow will yield ~430 lbs of retail cuts of beef. That’s enough to feed 1 person for an entire year. Given there are more than 1.5 billion cows on the planet, that’s a lot of meat to go around to support the most nutritious diet in the world. Pretty insane that 90% of the foods in grocery stores didn’t even exist 100 years ago. Most humans would be healthier if they were stranded on a remote island than if they were given unlimited money to spend in a modern grocery store. Be very careful about what you buy at a grocery store today. One of my goals is to produce all of my own food within 5 years. I want a farm with bison, fruit, goats, cows, bees, and alpacas. Seed oils are the most destructive force in the world today. Not eating them is not enough. You need to have a yard sign rejecting them. You need every person that enters your home to know that you hate seed oils. You need to throw them away in every home you walk into. You need to scream at waiters that serve them. You need to bring butter with you everywhere. You need to dedicate your life to taking down these oils. Why do they cause so much damage? I believe one of the things that ties together all the mitochondrial dysfunction are seed oils via three main mechanisms: First, they remodel the cardiolipin structure of mitochondria. This causes: - energy to leak from mitochondria - cellular death - leakage of potassium Second, seed oils are highly susceptible to damage from the unsaturated bonds and they break down into toxic byproducts like HNE, acrolein and MDA when oxidized. These byproducts are linked to cancer, obesity, diabetes and alzheimers disease. Third, they serve as precursors to inflammatory prostaglandins that are also linked to every chronic disease. When people consume seed oils, they accumulate them in their fat. The average human today has over 20% of their fat as linoleic acid, vs just 7% 50 years ago Similar to letting a bottle of oil sit out in the sun, over time this causes your body to go rancid This is sickness. 🐂Your primary source of food should come from both ruminant and non-ruminant meats. Unprocessed meats are a better choice since any meat that is processed usually entails being cooked in highly inflammatory vegetable oils and they often contain added sugars and additives. ⚠️Food companies are allowed to list products with sugar serving sizes of <1g as 0. But if the container has 30 servings, you are consuming several grams of sugar. ❓How does shredded cheese add potato starch but have zero carbs? Hmm. 💡Remember, there is no essential carbohydrate that your body needs. You want to limit fruits and carbs in the beginning to feel the full effects of healing on a carnivore diet. There is no need for fructose (fruit) in the body. Zero. ❗️And if you’re struggling with gout or excess purines (Gout), you don’t want to do meat + fruit. 🐟 Fatty fish is rich in omega 3s. Stick to fish over oils. 🥩 I eat a rainbow of meats: beef, pork, fish, shellfish, chicken, eggs, dairy, and animal fats. Beef is usually part of my daily regimen as it helps me feel the most satiated. 🧠 I no longer recommend liver and kidney organs unless there is a noticeable deficiency. Ideally, limit vitamin A to the RDA, which means 1-2 oz liver + eggs + butter/ghee is not ideal daily. Figure out what makes sense for you. 🥛 Stick to hard cheeses as they are less processed and have less lactose And raw dairy is ideal. We don’t pasteurize breastmilk. We ideally shouldn’t with our dairy. It’s not easy getting raw dairy so do what works for you. 🔥 Use added fats for lean meats. WHAT TO SNACK... Long-term, we don’t really need snacks on a meat-based diet (same goes for any low-carb diet). 🎢If you fuel your body with fat, you don’t constantly feel the glucose-insulin rollercoaster and this manifests as less hanger. But sometimes we do want to snack. Sometimes because of old rituals. 💡These meat-based snacks have been very helpful as temporary foods while transitioning to a fat-adapted state. They also helped with on-the-go meals. ⛑You can read the pro-tips based on food sensitivities I’ve found with my research and seen with my meat-based clients. If you don’t have any of these issues, find the snacks that work best for you. 🐂For beef sticks, I stick to grass fed with the least amount of additives and carbs.🐖For pork rinds, stick to the baked varieties or the brands that cook their rinds in tallow or avocado oil (if you can tolerate). I don’t recommend too many if you’re trying to lose weight or trying to normalize your stools. Cured meats are ideal with fewer additives. 🥚Hard boiled eggs: I like to take them right out of the fridge and then eat them at room temp at lunch. Sometimes I use high-quality olive oil or whipped butter as a dip to moisten the egg yolk. 🐟Canned meats: stick to wild-caught with the canned varieties. Bloat from fiber is not normal. Common, yes, but not normal. ⁉️The thought is that we need fibrous plant foods to feed our gut microbiome to have optimal health. ⚖️Our gut microbiome contains bacteria, fungi, viruses and other microscopic living things that regulate many of our bodily functions: vitamin creation, immune system and brain modulation, metabolism and weight regulation. 🦠Not enough good microbes, or too many bad microbes, can lead to intestinal disorders (IBS, Leaky Gut, SIBO) but also most chronic illness. ❓But is fiber ESSENTIAL for optimal health? Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends a daily fiber intake of 25g-35g. ⁉️We think that fibrous plant foods fuel our intestines with short-chain fatty acids (SCFA). SCFAs are a subset of fatty acids (acetate, propionate and butyrate) that are produced by the gut microbiome during the fermentation of fiber. 🚨Most claims of health benefits of fiber are based on epidemiological studies; controlled trials cannot definitively prove benefits. ⚠️Since fiber is NOT digestible, it can cause a host of intestinal issues.Most people find eliminating fiber from their diet to be highly beneficial to their gut health. 🥩Fiber is one of the big backlashes against a meat-based diet. It’s ironic though because one of the most overarching benefits of eating meat-based is healing gut health issues.🤯 💩Don’t we need fiber to poop? There are nutrients you can’t get from plants. 💔Today I heard a vegan influencer Ms. Zhanna reportedly passed away of starvation after subsisting exclusively off a diet of exotic fruit. She was only 39. 🤷🏻‍♀️I don’t like being mean about other diets (or people) or getting all anthropological with diets. It’s frankly unnecessary. 🍃In fact I know families that are plant-based that I absolutely love. We are more similar than not. I genuinely feel they’re misled. ❤️‍🩹But we have to get the message out there that plant-based is HARMFUL for your health. We need to help our fellow neighbor. 🐟One nutrient is DHA that is not in plants. The highest amounts of DHA are found in fish and shellfish. 💡DHA is also in algae (a protist, not a plant), mother's milk, and in yolks, in small amounts. Algae can be an alternative source of DHA for those who cannot eat fish due to histamine intolerance or shellfish allergy. 🌰Seeds and nuts are not a good source for complete Omega-3s because our bodies need DHA, and the body does not convert ALA to DHA efficiently— it’s less than 1%. Any plant-based dietitian tell you this nuance? Deficiencies in DHA are associated with 📍fetal alcohol syndrome 📍ADHD 📍cystic fibrosis 📍phenylketonuria 📍psychiatric and mood disorders 📍aggression. 📖The recommended daily minimum intake of combined DHA and EPA for healthy adults is 500 mg. 💡A 3-ounce serving of cooked wild-caught salmon provides approximately 1,220 mg of DHA and 350 mg of EPA. ⛑️Eat fatty fish for DHA. But most of all, eat animal based foods that have nutrients non-existent in plants.
