Gella Display is an accidental sans serif font family with high internal contrast. It consists of 40 styles (10 weights × 4 widths). The abundance of styles makes Gella Display quite a multitasking font. It will work well for typing large amounts of text as well as for headlines, logos, packaging, branding, presentations, and more. The Gella Display font was released in April 2022. Ask any Graphic Designer, pairing is a science on its own. But no worries, I’m here to help. At least with my personal idea of how my fonts can be paired. Let’s begin! When it comes to font pairing, the goal is to create contrast. Contrast means tension, and tension makes a design interesting and aesthetically appealing. Font pairing methods For font pairing, there are two methods you should consider: Concord and Contrast. Concord is pairing two fonts from the same family, i.e., Regular and Bold. Contrast pairing is pairing two different styles, i.e., Sans and Serif. Since Concord pairing stays within the same family, I would describe this method as clean and subtle. It work well for defining hierarchies without adding a new tone. With Contrast pairings, entirely new colors and moods become possible. Let’s dive into the example! Example 1 Since Neue Faktum is not only available in different weights but also in three widths (Condensed, Normal, and Extended), there’s a wide range of possibilities to create contrast. In this example, I mix the normal width with the condensed width. The condensed style is set in uppercase to distinguish it even more from the other two styles. Example 2 Here, the monolinear, sans-serif Neue Faktum is paired with a contrasting and warm serif font. The contrasts of monolinear vs. contrasting, cold vs. warm, and clean vs. expressive create an exciting overall picture. The focus here is on the serif font, as it receives the most attention as a headline font. Example 3 This combination has similar strong contrasts as in Example 2.
