Wild and Free 🍃🌺 is my first textile embroidery piece. Continuing my typographic experimentation alongside floral motifs, I crafted a composition that emulates a tropical forest, where the phrase is surrounded by characteristic tropical vegetation: colorful, vibrant, and diverse. Likewise, the stitches used are highly varied, with a different stitching technique employed for each flower and leaf, including flat, interlaced, and raised stitches. Not quite finished with the first card but I thought I’d share the progress. I ended up screen printed the “base” of the due date cards, though I do hope to come back to laser engraving woodblocks for a future project. The type is all hand set and printed on my tiny Line-o-Scribe press. Setting the type and figuring out how to lock it up is a super satisfying puzzle for me. I write the poem as I go, often altering the words to fit the limits of what type I have available. This first round of cards will be for my Print of the Month Club Patreon subscribers. What I’ve been up to the last few weeks: 1. & 2. New type, compliments of @SwampPress 3. The type in their new home :) 4. Front of forme 5. A rare look at the back of a forme 6. Proof printing with an antique iron as a baren 7. Paper registration & makeready 8. Dampening paper to prepare for printing . Of course I forgot to take pictures of the final product 😅 but I managed to finish the print run of 150 with only one hiccup. Here it goes. Another paper joy has come out of a printer—thanks guys from the Helbich printer in Brno. It's already the fourth in this series, and there should be one more next winter—the fifth and last. The typeface for headings, figure numbers and pagination is Cocogoose Compressed Light by Zetafonts. The body text, notes and image description is set in the Bell typeface by TypeType foundry. And if you are wondering how I made these shifts of the possitions of the beginning of paragraphs... The book launch is this Friday at the Opera House in Alma, Michigan, and I don’t know if I can properly express how meaningful this project was and is. I hope this anthology continues and brings more light to the conversation about the PBB disaster. A publication typesetting the AIGA Eye on Design article titled "Should Designers Take Responsibility for the Ethics of Their Client?" written by James Cartwright. For this publication brief, I aimed to learn about inclusive design by following print inclusivity guidelines developed by Vision Australia. The typographic style is inspired by Swiss Design, which is known for its cleanliness, readability and objectivity. It's definitely not 100% accessible but I learned so much from this project! Bleilaus är ett nytt museum och har ett mycket tydligt och lite ovanligt koncept, och jag kunde ta med mig en del idéer som vi kan använda vill i vårt arbete i Sverige inom GRAMUS och på Grafiska Museet Helsingborg. ======== Am Welttag des Buches bin ich heute in Soltau und habe die ersten Schritte unternommen um die dortige Linotype nach einigen Jahren Stillstand wieder in Betrieb zu nehmen. Es ist noch einiges zu tun, aber eine Probezeile konnten wir schon gießen. Jetzt brauche ich erstmal ein wenig Hilfe von Percy @typorama oder Ebbe @vingaardsofficin.
