One of my favorite things we did in Vancouver was @capilanosuspensionbridge . Capilano is a rain forest in Vancouver that has a 460 foot long bridge that crosses over Capilano River in @vancouver_canada . It’s wild to think that the original bridge was built of hemp and rope and now there are sights to see and ways to walk along the tops of the trees. You can also grab some pretty delicous eats on both sides of the bridge as well as hot choc, apple cider or even coffee. We had waffles at the Beary Cafe and a Brownie Hot chocolate. They of course have a gift shop where you can get local fares from local businesses. We went at night and the lights that they hung all through the forest and even some places in the river were stunning to see. You could spend half a day seeing all the sights. GROUSE MOUNTAIN HIGHLIGHTS – Views from Vancouver: BIRDS, BICEPS, AND BEARS! PART THREE: BEARS There's a bear sanctuary on Grouse Mountain housing two grizzlies: Grinder(with an "e," people!) and Coola. I have no idea which is which. Honestly, I’m hoping the solo bear photos aren't all of the same one bear and that I've shown then both off fairly. They both have sad histories but fortunately, they've been safe and happy here for 22 hibernations! 1) Through the fence, behind a fallen tree, looking all bashful. 2) Seen from the observation deck, clearly they are not hiding. They're lounging. 3) Looking more closely, I think these are pictures of the same bear. Ah well… They’re both beautiful. 5) LOOK! TWO BEARS!!! 6) One last shot of the grizzlies. July 29 was their Bear-thday party. There's a picture on the Grouse Mountain website of their cake, which is made of salmon, berries, watermelon, carrots, yogurt... honestly, when the ranger describe it to me, it didn’t sound too bad! 7) This was a very cute way of saying Don't Feed The Bears. There was a group of obnoxious kids making bad jokes so for a moment I was tempted... 8) Trust me, everyone is happier with this in place, including the bears. 9) Before heading back down the Skyride, we stopped at the Altitude Bistro. This sign confronts people on their way out. Again, everyone is happier with this in place. Speaking of happy... 10) We Scotts enjoying the beautiful bistro view accompanied by swanky poutine! This was our last full day in Vancouver and this was our first poutine of the entire trip!!! Got it in just under the wire! STAY TUNED FOR BONUS BEAR POST!!! GROUSE MOUNTAIN HIGHLIGHTS – Views from Vancouver: BIRDS, BICEPS, AND BEARS! PART TWO: BICEPS It’s actually about lumberjacks but that doesn’t alliterate with BIRDS and BEARS. That said… 1) This is the setup for the lumberjack show on Grouse Mountain. There’s a mill, a cabin, a well, a bullseye, and poles for the climbing contest. The MC comes out and gets each side of the audience ready to cheer on our respective lumberjacks in tests of chopping, sawing, chainsaw sculpting, axe throwing, climbing, and log rolling! 2) This is our guy. We Scotts were deeply pleased! (He’s posing after handily winning the climbing contest.) #biceps 3) Here they both are chopping logs in half while standing on them! I would have cut off my own foot! (Our guy lost this and the axe throwing. We were chagrinned...) 4) Things took a turn when our guy made it all the way up the pole, rang the bell, and slid down before the other dude made it halfway up! We were so proud! #Redemption 5) Here our guy is with the beautiful bunny he carved with a chainsaw. (Narrator: The bunny was not beautiful.) Our opponent did not fair better. Nobody won this contest. 6-8) They went best of three in the logrolling contest. This was roll number 3 and as you can see, their guy lost… and our guy strutted around victorious and wet. Again, were were quite happy with this outcome. #WeWonWeWon! #WetLumberjack 9) The lumberjacks left the playing area when our MC noticed a rogue climber!!! (There are people online who didn’t realize this was part of the show. I can’t even…) He did some fun daredevilish stuff including removing all of his safety equipment (that we knew about) before doing this handstand! I must confess, I wasn’t sure how he was going to make it down but it was very entertaining when he did! 10) Curtain Call with our two log jockeys, our delightful MC, and the "rogue climber"! And you didn’t even need to ask! #VacationPhotos #YoureWelcome 1) The Scotts on Grouse Mountain enjoying all manner of vistas and views! #hats But how did we get here? 2) We rode the Skyride!!! I fully expected to be in a full-blown ass-clenched panic, but it was not bad at all! The view kept getting more and more beautiful the higher we went. And what did we see when we got to the top??? After a brief exploratory constitutional, we came upon the Birds in Motion exhibit! (Presented in corporation with Pacific Northwest Raptors. @islandraptors) 3-4) Falcon Mug Shot! Loving partial side-eye! 5-6) In Flight, Indeed! Don’t let the feathers fool you; this is a juvenile bald eagle. Once he reaches maturity, he’ll have a full head of white feathers. 7) Beautiful hawk making its “stage” debut! 8) Turkey vulture! (Total prima donna…) 9-10) Appropriately named Great Horned Owl!!! His given moniker is Spock! We rode down the mountain with the host and he was really great. Loves what he does and his enthusiasm is contagious.
