My youngest turned 14 the other day and he wanted to do frogmore stew at grandma and grandpa’s house in the country. So we got a day everyone was off and made it happen. Aging is freedom. Someone once told me no one would ever listen or take me seriously until I looked older. As someone who’s always looked a lot younger than my age, it’s truly been an interesting thought. Now that there are laugh lines and a few gray hairs cropping up, and a bit of signs of aging on my hands and my body I am so thankful. Like a new car, we feel a sense of relief when the first dents are made. We think about how cautious we need to be because we don’t want to ruin the new car experience. Friday was my birthday! I turned 36! Here’s the thing, I’m so much more confident today than I think I’ve ever been, and I think that this has to do with watching my kids grow up and trying to be an example of what I want them to see in themselves. I want them to find joy in every task, even the errands and chores, whether that’s jamming out to music while cleaning the house, or grabbing/doing something fun when we are out running errands. I love all their hair. Especially Jane’s! She’s got this crazy, bleach blonde, beach baby vibe going on. I hope that she embraces it! I hope they all embrace it! Have fun with hair cuts, it grows back! You never know what you are going to love! (Betty wants to cut her hair back to her chin!) I love their freckles, their blue eyes, and although the older ones are grabbing for make up a little here and there, I hope that they embrace their natural beauty and never try to be something different. So here I am at 36, wearing less make up, feeling more confident than ever in my skin, experimenting again with my natural hair texture, and singing with my kids in the car. Oh yeah, and of course, I want them to always prioritize movement, but that’s really become a piece of our lifestyle that I don’t have to think too much about. Between mat workouts and living at the baseball fields (which we walk to!) we tend to move a lot! I look at myself and feel proud of where I’ve been, lessons I’ve learned, who I’ve become, and the habits that I’ve formed. I started to slow things down with everything that is going on with my life since I felt like there was a lot of things that were making me feel overwhelmed. Instead of taking action or doing something I would just constantly think and worry about it. Honestly, I just started to put things in perspective and understand that if I take on my tasks one at a time it wouldn’t be as hard on me. . Also some of you may know from my last post about how my shoulder has tendonitis and that also was messing up my mindset a little bit 😬 In attempt to fix it I slowed down my upper body training. I started to go for more slow and controlled reps to really target the muscle rather than pushing the weight just to get stronger. I felt like the way I was training my upper body was just to push the weight and progressively overload every week. Don’t get me wrong I was getting stronger but I seen that I was prone to getting more injured during my workouts. 🤦🏿♂️ Its really funny because when I took this time to fix up my form and make some tweaks, I actually increased my strength in various ways. I was able to rep out 315 of 5 reps for 4 sets on deadlifts, I finally was able to do 2 free hand handstand pushups, and also I increased my incline dumbbell bench press to 70 pounds each hand. 💪 Next time I do those exercises I will make sure to record them so yall know I am not fronting 😂 . But other than that if some of you also feel that you are stuck in the same place or your routine just doesn’t feel right, I highly recommend to make a change. Whether it is to make a change to your routine, take a break from where you are, or just spend some time reflecting on whats going on in your life. Everybody has times where life gets to them and the best thing you can do is find a way to overcome those difficulties.
