Photo log of a time that seemed unforgiving. When I officially started Hello June & Co, I was on the Mornington Peninsula, knees deep in a pandemic. I’m not sure if it was the forced to stay at home part or the fact it felt a little like freedom was getting taken away but whatever the reason, creating Hello June & co gave me the freedom I needed, control of something when the world was trying to control everything. The support I received was huge, an unfathomable amount. Friends and family along for the ride. After months we got the news of the “allowed” to go within a 5km and I pushed those boundaries to its limits. No, we couldn’t go into peoples homes but was a backward technically “in a home” or was it the “land” around the home. Images taken in back yards, through fences, through glass, a window into the home. I found a way, photographers found away. Then when the mental health weighed on me, my kids, family.. well just about everyone in Melbourne, we broke free, we found “our bubble, “our trust bubble”, a few families or friends and we socialised with to some degree to survive the unknown in that I could create. Allow Hello June and Co to be seen even in the midst of a crazy time. Without my bubble, 262 days of lockdown may have broken me.
