I make art because I’ve always needed to escape this place, a way to channel my rage, my grief, my loneliness. Today, I’m an illustrator and I’m a community worker and I may even be ‘Blue Mountains Woman of The Year’ but I am ALWAYS a survivor of men’s violence. My father was my first abuser age 0 to age 16, then the mistreatment came from male friends, teenage boyfriends, strangers in the street, men in doctor’s coats, uncles, bosses, step dads, journalists, politicians… it just keeps going. Each and every time I get upset or I get angry or even if I just get quiet, it’s labelled as a personality defect. ‘Oh that’s just Ailie’ they say… ‘she’s the problem, not you mate’ never you. This systemic, relentless harassment has utterly shaped my life both privately and professionally. It has stolen my choice, my psychological well-being and now my physical health. The protest sign I’m holding was made by a 17 year old… I met her when she was just 13 and even then she already knew the world was not safe for us. I saw a really powerful post on LinkedIn today and wanted to share my thoughts around it on workplace environments/jobs. I’ve been working nonstop since I was 14 years old, yep, 14. I’ve learned an incredible amount about myself, others, and the workplace over that time. One of the biggest things I’ve learned is how important it is to put myself first. Actually, it’s a nonnegotiable for me at this point. My life and health - mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical - are my priority and always will be, so I do what I can to ensure it stays that way. The story the woman shared was as heartbreaking as it was powerful. It’s stories like those that remind me to continue doing what I’m doing to take care of myself even if that means not becoming or staying “a number”. Life is too short and precious to keep chugging away like a simple cog in a wheel. We all have tremendous value and I feel most of us truly don’t realize how much value we have! We tend to rate our value on what other people and our company thinks of us. Been there too many times in my life, so I’m intimately familiar with it. As a brilliant being always says (you can infer who if you want☺️) in order for you to find/manifest your soul’s purpose, your life’s calling… 1. Follow your greatest excitement/passion at all times. That may shift more than you think it should, but go with it. 2. Do it to the best of your abilities until it’s no longer your top passion, and then start following the next most exciting thing with NO insistence or expectation of what the outcome should be or the timing of an outcome. 3. Stay in a positive mindset at all times regardless of the outcome. If it’s not the outcome you prefer, consider how this might be a learning experience for you, how it might be providing contrast so you can more clearly see what you don’t prefer so that it can more easily highlight what you do prefer, etc. “If we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change.” ~ Wayne Dyer Wishing you all a long, happy, prosperous, and a love-filled life that fulfills your soul!🥹💜

the corrupted ego is an abuser: he has been oppressing the feminine in all of us since the conception of descendant consciousness. however, physical abuse isn't the only example of the control that we *allow* the ego to have over us; there also exists psychological abuse, such as manipulation, and coercion through the facilitation of fear. from what I understand, typically, women won't leave troublesome, tumultuous relationships because they are afraid that if they try to leave, things will get worse, or that they won't be able to provide for themselves (and/or their children), and I would also correctly assume that some women stay due to their stubborn "I can fix him" nature--they wish to love others exponentially more than they love themselves; some women will endure anything in the name of "loving" a person; this is *martyrdom*. and within ourselves we can observe that same martyr; we are afraid to differ in our course and to oppose the ego because we are temporarily satiated by the trivial provisions of material lusts that he distracts us with. because *he*--the ego, the flesh-- is comfortable, we allow the treachery to persist. meanwhile, the eternal, fundamental self is suffering. men are especially susceptible to this; due to their mental and spiritual vulnerability they are more easily controlled by their egos. and the woman, the representative of the mind and spirit makes an easy target, physically, for a man who's internal feminine is subject to his own domineering hypermasculine energy. 🎀 for myself, that battle is over. and I am rinsing out any residual toxicity that may be left since I put him in his place as the temporary lesson that he is.
