Well this was a big undertaking but I was really excited to learn how to use LED neon for my church. I build two giant cassette tapes, two Tetris grids and three lettered signs that say Throwback Summer to span our three campuses. This was all for our throwback to the 80’s summer series and I think looks super rad as a backdrop. I routed everything on my @axiomprecision in multiple pieces, assembled the majority of them with @starbondadhesives medium CA glue and then hand wired. I think the results speak for themselves, but I would really love to know what you all think. _____ #led #ledlights #ledneon #neon #neonlights #throwback #80s #signage #stagedesign #church #churchstagedesign #summer #custom #custommade #cnc #cncrouter #cncwoodworking #axiomprecision @axiomcncprojects @toolstoday #teamtoolstoday @earlex_woodworking #thetinkirworkshop #wemakecrazypossible

The Vinca calipers just feel a ton more solid right out of the box and it returns to zero perfectly every time, even when going out all the way to its 6” max and back. I have arrived! I just made it down to Atlanta and am so excited to be at @workbenchconference again this year. I figured this would be a great opportunity to share a bit about myself and let you in on who this crazy maker is. My name is Kris, I’m originally from New Jersey, spent some time in Florida where I met and married my wife and then we moved to Virginia. I’ve been making things as long as I can remember. Taking things apart and making wild and crazy things out of nothing. Over the years I’ve taught myself all sorts of skills including woodworking, mold making and casting, welding, and most recently CNC machining. The TinKir Workshop is my side hustle. I currently work full time for Waters Edge Church as the Technical Manager overseeing sound, lights and set design. I also freelance as a Pyrotechnician which I’ve been doing for the past 17 years. My main skill set and what I excel in is CNC woodworking. I love the creativity and precision that comes with CNC work and the ability to dream big all the time. I love taking all of your crazy ideas and helping to bring them to life in fun and new ways. But most of all, I love this community. You all are the more supportive people around. There’s a bunch of you that I converse with daily, but I want to get to know more of you. If you see me at workbench, please say hi and tell me about what you do. For those that were curious about my process on cutting out these signs, here’s a look at how I did it. First I sanded down the plywood to 220 grit, cleaned it and then stained it. I let it dry overnight. I gave it a quick wipe down of any remaining excess and then laid down the Oramask 813. I just used a soft rag as I went along to smooth out the mask as I stuck it down. Then I created a toolpath to cut the outlines of the letters around 0.03” depth just enough to score the masking material and I peeled up the remnants. I did this because in earlier tests the cutting was putting side pressure on the mask and causing a lot of it to lift off the material. The the CNC did its thing clearing out all the letters nicely. There were still a few sharp corners of mask that lifted up, so I cut off what wouldn’t stick anymore and laid down some fresh vinyl to then hand cut with a razor blade. All in all a pretty simple process. Next these letters get painted white and the mask will come off. _____ #timelapse #djiosmomobile2 #signs #signage #roomnumbers #oramask #oramask813 #cnc #cncrouter #cncwoodworking #teamtoolstoday @amanatool @toolstoday @axiomprecision @iconiccnc #axiomprecision #thetinkirworkshop #wemakecrazypossible

Thanks again for passing on the equipment and some sweet materials and I hope to see some great work from you in the future. _____ #meetamaker #communityovercompetition #newtools #rememberwen @wenproducts #planer #woodplaner #woodworking #thetinkirworkshop #wemakecrazypossible

I’ve gotta tell you guys about these @carolinashoe boots. I got these back in March after winning them at @workbenchconference and I’ve definitely put them through the ringer. I’ve thrown just about all I can at them and they don’t even flinch. They’re super comfortable to wear all day long, which has always been a battle between me and other boots in the past. I can’t say enough good about them. They’ve saved my toes numerous times and I even got caught in a torrential downpour and was soaked to the bone except for my feet which stayed perfectly dry. Thanks Carolina for making such an incredible product. _____ #carolinashoe #boots #workboots #safety #ppe #alldaycomfort #notsponsoredbutiwishitwas #thetinkirworkshop #wemakecrazypossible

I hope everyone is having an awesome day. It’s been a little while since I’ve posted so let me share with you what’s been going down in my shop these last few weeks. I got a contract to build a ton of signage and themed elements for a church down in NC. There’s been a ton of MDF, plywood, primer, paint, glueing, screwing, staining, etc. as you can see, the shop is quite full. I’m super grateful to be working on this project am in the home stretch for completion. There’s so much going on in the shop right now. Here’s a little snippet of all the different pieces being cut out, painted, assembled, etc! I have layered MDF signs, engraved painted and stained signs, and so much more. This has been a very exciting project so far and I’m hoping to have it wrapped up by this Wed. Still have a few more things to cut out and seal, but I’m just about there. _____ What’s new in your shop? _____ #church #ministry #kingdomfocused #signage #cnc #cncrouter #cncwoodworking #teamtoolstoday @toolstoday #axiomprecision @axiomprecision @homerightps @earlex_woodworking @storylabs.usa #thetinkirworkshop #wemakecrazypossible

This right here is the true embodiment of #communityovercompetition I had the great opportunity today to meet up with another local maker and CNC guy, Bryant, from @sawdustbydesign His machine was a bit bigger than mine which was needed for this section of the project I’m working on for @storylabs.usa He was gracious enough to have me over and get these cutouts done. We did have to implore some creativity as the cutouts were still just a tad longer than his bed. I used my old dowel pin technique to hold the material in place and then shift the sheet down to the next hole set for the continued part of the route. You’ll see in my last slide a video of the 2nd process cutting and meeting up with the first process perfectly. Thanks again for having me over, and if you’re not already following Bryant, please check out some of his amazing work that I got to see first hand! _____ #cnc #cncrouter #legacywoodworkingmachinery #cncwoodworking @toolstoday #teamtoolstoday #thetinkirworkshop #wemakecrazypossible

So huge shot out to this sander. I’ve actually had this tool for over a year and never used it. Last night I realized it was the best tool for getting into these V grooves. I was getting frustrated trying to sand in there by hand until I remembered this sander was just sitting in my drawer. So I came home from vacation to find the bin in the back of my truck opened up (not by me) and filled with water. Submerged was one of my @ridgidpowertools batteries and the charger. It looks like I can save the charger. I opened it up thanks to these security screw bits and cleaned the board with Deoxit. I didn’t see any corrosion or damage so🤞🏻Now to let it dry out and test it. The battery on the other hand is toast. Unfortunately for some reason Ridgid’s warranty site didn’t like it when I tried registering the batteries, so this guy isn’t covered. Womp womp. Time to go shopping and replace it. _____ #submerged #submergedtools #teamridgid #savethecharger #drillbattery #battery #thetinkirworkshop #wemakecrazypossible

I have to say, overall I’m super impressed with this spray shelter. It sets up slightly different than the small shelters. The small ones just unfold and they’re setup. This one requires setting up two tent style poles for the structure. It assembles super easy with 1 person. My only wish is that it had a floor. Not a deal breaker though. A simple tarp or plastic sheeting will suffice, but that is one feature of the small shelter I liked. The front has a full screen on it that easily Velcro’s into place. This is great because you can leave objects to dry without worrying that debris might blow onto your fresh paint or finish. I should be putting this through it’s paces for the next 2 weeks and will definitely be sharing more on it. Thank you again to @homerightps for sending this to me. You want to talk about a company invested in the maker community, it’s them! Be sure to go check them out. _____ #sprayshelter #homeright #homerightsprayshelter #painting #thetinkirworkshop #wemakecrazypossible

New bits in the house! These are for sure one of my most used bits on the CNC. These are the 1/4” SPEKTRA compression bits from ToolsToday. I use these in MDF and plywood and they leave such a clean cut. I have a very large project coming up and these are the primary workhorses to cut everything out with. _____ @toolstoday @amanatool Tool No. 46170-K _____ #cnc #cncrouter #cncbits #toolstoday #teamtoolstoday #axiomprecision #cncwoodworking #thetinkirworkshop #wemakecrazypossible

This cutting board was super special. I made this right before heading out for vacation for a long time friend of mine. He got married yesterday and this was their wedding gift. I’m so thankful that I was able to make these for a great family. Items I created were a yard Jenga set, a custom name sign and a pallet wood wall. I absolutely love this simple idea they had with displaying the rings on the Jenga set. Super fun. I definitely had a lot of fun making these. I got this large M wrapped up and delivered yesterday. It right around 4’ square, so it’s quite large. It’s made from two 2’x4’ pine panels from @loweshomeimprovement and finished in some Danish oil. The two halves were glued and @kregjig -ed together. I laser engraved the bottom right with the wedding couple’s name and wedding date. This will actually be their guest book at the wedding. Everyone will sign the M and then it’ll eventually hang in the couples home. This was a super fun piece to make and I can’t wait to see if full of signatures and well wishes. I know it’s not Thursday yet, but here’s a little throwback to this sign I made. I just finally got a photo from the client with it hung on their property. This was a piece of sinker cypress he brought to me. It was engraved on both sides, painted and sanded down to reveal the text. I also included some wenge bow ties to help keep those cracks from spreading. This was such a fun project and it makes it even more worth it to see it hanging proudly at the entrance of their property. _____ #sign #signage #woodsign #engraving #1776 #cnc #cncrouter #cncwoodworking #axiomprecision @axiomprecision @toolstoday #thetinkirworkshop #wemakecrazypossible

So I thought this was quite interesting while I was shopping at @loweshomeimprovement yesterday. If you swipe between the two photos, both of these boards are shrink wrapped and labeled as the same product, however only one of them is actually 5/4. They’re at least a 1/4” different from each other. I’m glad I caught that and paid for the correct sized item. 🤦🏻‍♂️ _____ #mismarked #sizedifference #bigboxstore #thetinkirworkshop #wemakecrazypossible
