I'm currently working on sanding the stairs back to their natural wood. Its taking forever!! I've scraped all the multi layers of paint off and even got a heat gun involved. This was my first furniture upcycling project. I was in need of a new coffee table but the one I wanted was €325! I refused to pay that much money for a mass produced piece of furniture, and was conscious of the effect mass production is having on the planet, so I set out to find a table with drawers that I could refinish/upcycle. I found this table, which was listed at €40 but the seller accepted my offer of €25. I am no stranger to basic DIY but I had never upcycled furniture before and I had no clue where to start. Instagram provided so.much.inspiration 👏👏👏, right down to the design I eventually settled on. Sanding was the hardest part - I used a mouse sander for the large areas and the rest I sanded by hand 😬 After I had stripped the top right back to bare wood I applied 3 coats of bleach, with drying time in between each coat, to get rid of the yellow look. I painted the body and stripes with @fleetwood_paints black satinwood paint and waxed the top with clear @briwaxinternational. I am so excited with how this coffee table turned out. It cost less than €50, but did take many many days and lots of hard work to complete. When you start a project and realize you don’t have the right tools….the project stalls. My son and I decided to make his teachers and staff cheese boards for Xmas. You know that thing that happened two months ago. They have turned into a 2021-2022 school year gift. I had one sander and it worked for some of the job. But it was too big for detailed work. The handle was also too big for my 10yr olds hand. We then borrowed two other sanders a bigger one for the rougher jobs and a second one that wasn’t circular. Again too bulky. I asked for the @blackanddecker_us Mouse Sander. The grip was perfect for a 10year olds hand, the finger attachment reached in nooks and crannies pretty well. The 120 grit sand paper helped smoothed over the boards nicely. To use the finger sander. you have to unscrew a part. The downside - it didn’t come with the little screwdriver to do this exchange. That would have been a nice addition. It came with two sanding sheets for the main compartment but only one for the finger sand attachment. It would have been nice to get a some extras for the attachment. Overall, for the cost (mine was a Xmas present from my son) to the quality- it is definitely a tool to have in your life. Especially if your kids want to do DYI projects. The grip is perfect for a 10yr olds hands. Now to order various grit for this little fellas we are on our way to finishing 16 cheese boards. Note: this is a product review just because I like it. I have not received anything in return for expressing my feelings. U P C Y C L E Finished upcycling these nest of tables at the weekend. I sanded the tables right down to the bare wood then painted the legs with @frenchicpaint dazzle me and the table tops with Beech varnish from @bandq_uk. Saving myself a fortune buying new ones ♻️.

SANDING . Does anyone else love sanding down wood? I have a mouse sander and it's super easy to use. Look at the difference in the arm of the chair versus the back slates. When the tacs have been removed The old/broken seat slates can be removed and then rest can be hand/mouse sanded down. And then the seat can be replaced. The cushions will be off to be recovered soon. I'm going with a dark green fabric, so think a dark stain would look best? What are you thoughts? Bit more like the original Danish design... I've made myself a sanding station....on wheels! Anyone with a small shop knows that space is valuable, especially any sort of work surface. My Bench Sander and Spindle Sander were getting in the way when I had projects drying, so a mobile cart was the best solution. Whilst i was here I thought I'd free up some wall space by incorporating some storage for my Mouse and Orbital sanders and their assorted sanding pads. A nice early evening bit of fun! Smoothed off the plain band silver ring with some Emery sticks of various grades (I love this method now more than sanding bands on the dremel), more time consuming, but far more enjoyable. Started texturing the ring. Plus some mouse sanding of the backs of these awesome 18ct gold earrings to get em nice and flat👌.
