β Being your authentic self....β β May upset some people, especially those people who would like to control you or make you smaller. It's not about you, it's about them. They live in a limited world where they probably don't even accept themselves. β β Growing up in a family where it was not ok to be a witch, where it was not ok to be anything but the cookie cutter image that my family tried to fit me in, made being myself hard. Add to that, verbal abuse and you have a recipe for trauma. β β However as an artist, I had to come back to who I was, and I own who I am, there were some wonderful people along the way who were kind who were supportive and who celebrated our gifts and our strengths. β β As an artist, we have to bare our hearts to the world, and that way those who walk similar paths, will know they are not alone. β β As an artist I have to forgive those people who don't accept me, for myself, not for them. This was one of my first portraits 5 years agoβ β It's a self portrait of a younger me, when I used to go wander though the woods at Wasaga Beach. I'd write down spells in my journal and cast them in the middle of the woods. I'd think about storylines for novels that I wanted to write, sometimes I'd just run through the woods, and challenge myself not to fall. Sometimes I'd sit still and a wild animal like a porcupine or a deer would show themselves to me. I was a tree hugging, nature loving witchy girl.
