Repeat after me: “I am somebody who xyz.” If you’re someone who finds yourself struggling with inconsistency in starting or maintaining a habit, try shifting your focus & how you think about your identity. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately since I trained a whopping total of 12 times in August, which is significantly lower than any other month since I started 10 yrs ago. It would’ve been hard to keep trying IF I didn’t know deep down that I AM someone who prioritizes fitness. Training is just something I do, it’s part of my identity. Similarly, I KNOW I am somebody who prioritizes protein, adds veggies, tries to get adequate sleep & stress management, listens to my body, etc. It makes it easier to sustain those habits the majority of the time when I know that’s who I am. If you focus on shifting your identity, it then becomes easier to focus on the habit of saying "I’ll do xyz daily/weekly", and benefit from its out come of feeling better, more energetic, etc... It has to begin with belief in yourself - who you are & what you can and will do. That also means you have to believe that you are someone who will enjoy the process, continuously put forth effort, and be willing to stay flexible & adaptable, especially when it feels wildly imperfect. Because any sort of change is going to take longer than you want, and in spite of what diet culture wants you to believe, there’s no final destination. Eating right is not always easy. What makes Derby City CrossFit so different than other gyms? ⁣ ⁣ You look at globo gyms and everyone has on headphones doing their own thing, trying to avoid eye contact. ⁣ ⁣ You look at other fitness programs and you have your own bike, treadmill, stair stepper or whatever that you are stuck on by yourself the whole time. ⁣ ⁣ People want to be in and out as fast as they can without interactions.⁣ ⁣ Wouldn’t you rather workout with 15+ people you know? ⁣ ⁣ That’s why Derby is so cool. You probably have a regular class or two that you attend with friends and a Coach who is there to help you on your fitness journey. ⁣ ⁣ Everyone is there to do the same workout, to be inspired and humbled at the same time. ⁣ ⁣ After or before class, people are always hanging out and actively looking for those interactions, unlike other gyms. ⁣ ⁣ So, the next time a new person shows up to your usual class, introduce yourself.
