One of our favorite school traditions is the Advent Feast that marks the end our semester and the beginning of Christmas break. The students and staff get to enjoy a festive meal together while they are served by the parent community. We’re excited to see this event grow as our school continues to grow. 🎄🍽️❤️ #AdventFeast

Gaudete! Rejoice! We took our baby Jesus to church with us this morning to have it blessed after Mass. I managed to whip up some pink desserts with things I had on hand or in the freezer. Pretty sure those cupcakes have been in there since Laetare Sunday 🙃 💕Blessed third week of Advent to you! #inthisseason #adventfeast #liturgicalliving

Happy feast of St. Lucy! We made sweet buns this morning. They ain’t pretty 😉 I took crescent rolls, added some honey and mushed em into a muffin tin. This is your reminder that not everything needs to be picture perfect to be perfect for your family. Your love brings light into your home, just as the beautiful feast of St. Lucy brings light in the midst of this dark time of year. Each of my children made a gingerbread village today for Our Lady of Loreto. Mom and Dad helped a lot, but they turned out so cute! The other day, my 6yo said, totally unprompted, “We have a lot of nice holiday traditions, right? Like making gingerbread houses…” He may not have remembered a thing about Mary’s house being flown by angels from one town to another, but it’s a start, and I’ll take it. To traditions! #adventfeast #tistheseason #inthisseason #liturgicalliving #domesticchurch #traditions

Present me is very grateful that past me stashed these honey cookies in the freezer. It was nice to have an easy feast day treat to pull out today for the feast of St. Ambrose. We also worked on our beeswax Advent candles which we haven’t quite managed to finish yet. Advent looks a little different at our house this year, and I am trying to be okay with that. Do you know why Saint Ambrose is the patron of beekeepers? 🐝🍯 #adventfeast #liturgicalliving #domesticchurch #inthisseason

December 6th is the feast of the great bishop, St. Nicholas. He was born in Bari, Italy around 270 AD. He became the bishop of Myra. He is primarily known for his generosity to the poor and as a protector of children. He was also one of the few bishops at the Council of Nicaea , along with St. Athanasius, who defended the truth of Christ’s divinity against the heresy of Arius. He died around 346 AD and has been honored by the universal Church since the 10th century. He was a bishop whose "thoughts .. focus[ed] on taking care of [the] sheep, not taking care of [himself]" (from today's Office of Readings). In art he is portrayed with several symbols: bishop’s miter and crozier, three gold balls, coins or bags of gold (representing the dowries he provided for three young women), children, a ship or an anchor (because he is patron saint of sailors and the sea), book (representing the Gospels). It was on December 6, 1273 that St. Thomas Aquinas' was given a vision of heaven after which he set down his pen. It seemed to him that his writings were straw when compared to heaven. Today I have a host of images of St. Nicholas! Our own collection is large! As my friend, Terri, once said, "St. Nicholas has two homes -- heaven and your house!" But I also chose a number of images from sacred art. I love the image by Fra Angelico (part of series he did on the life of St. Nicholas) which shows the saint protecting and saving the sailors from the storm. The second painting, by Sebastiano Mainardi, is typical of the portrayal of the saint in Renaissance art. Another Fra Angelico painting protrays St. Nicholas and St. Dominic. At St. Nicholas' feet are three bags of gold. From the East we have two icons of this great saint. And finally, from long ago (Christmas 1975) is a picture of someone special dressed as St. Nicholas for the TAC Christmas party wearing a miter that I made! The prayer is a Byzantine prayer given to me years ago by Father Isaiah Teichert. Let us ask St. Nicholas to give our bishops today the strength to stand up against heresy as he did and to protect the suffering among us. #stnicholasday #adventfeast #playallthechristmasmusicnow

For all our Julian calendar followers, Happy Saint Nicholas Day! Saint Nicholas was a fourth-century bishop in what is now Turkey. He is renowned as the protector of the weak and poor. Stories of Saint Nicholas giving gifts to the needy and protecting children spread far and wide as people traveled or emigrated to other countries. He is the patron saint of Russia and Greece. In this icon, Saint Nicholas is shown from the waist up giving a blessing with his right hand and holding the Bible with his left. “The Giver of every good and perfect gift has called upon us to mimic His giving, by grace, through faith, and this is not of ourselves.” -Attributed to St. Nicholas, found in today’s reflection from Give Us This Day @giveusthisdaylp Happy St. Nicholas Day! This is a special one for me, because it is one we celebrated in my family growing up. It’s so fun sharing the traditions from my childhood with my own children, even if neither of them appreciated the stollen St. Nick brought us for breakfast. I wanted to turn the lights off, fold myself into my flannel sheets, let my brain do it’s created work of renewing my body after a long day. But this mythical “gooseberry pie” had been calling out my name ever since I randomly bought a pint of gooseberries from Trader Joe’s over a year ago. Sweeping exhaustion aside, and pressing on towards the pie, I donned my apron, fired up the oven, rinsed and sliced and folded the ingredients neatly into their womb. An hour later after savoring the smell while sudsing up dirty dishes and sorting out burdens with my husband, the lemon-shaped timer buzzed, heralding the holy invitation to feast. The gooey, golden berries bathed in butter, sugar, and egg yolk, bubbling through their pastry blankets was simply irresistible. We marveled at the rich love warming our bodies with every bite. #holyinvitation #holy #pie #gooseberrypie #hotpie #prettypies #whatimade #delicious #dessert #kcmom #love #baking #inthekitchen #kitchentheology #poetry #foodpoem #ccfreewrite #exhalecreativity #adventfeast #feast #eatwhatyoulove #reflection #holidayreflection #ambaking #amwriting #exhalefreewrite #gfbaking

On the eve of the feast of the Immaculate Conception let us remember the heart of Mary, that she primarily is the Joy of God, the revelation of the Father's delight in mankind. Her life shows us the way to the Way, she shows us the way to the Truth, and she shows us the way to the truth of the Life that is an eternal exchange of joys and dreams of which the thought alone pores out grace upon grace. #enchantedthoughts #immaculateconception #causeofourjoy #motherofGod #joytotheworld #adventfeast

There is no doubt that Christmas will be different this year. Just like the square in front of the spectacular building of St. Stephen's Basilica where normally, this time of year, my favorite Christmas market sits nicely decorated with Christmas lights and street food vendors offer traditional Hungarian culinary delights like lángos, chimney cake, roasted sausages, roasted chestnut etc.  Seeing the shiny decorations, smelling sweet Christmas treats and hearing classic Christmas tunes were enough to make me dream of the North Pole and the mystical majesty of it all. I wish we could have put up some of this Christmas spirit in jars last year and now we could open a jar of it every day until the end of 2020. Even if I know that the true spirit of Christmas lies in the heart...

Our first Advent Feast of 2020 was also a birthday tea for #cslewis #louisamayalcott and #madeleinelengle who (remarkably!) share this birth date. We enjoyed talking about their books (obviously favorites for these little women sci-fi/fantasy lovers of Cair Paravel Academy😉) and then had a cheesy Christmas song lip-sync contest as after-dinner entertainment. December 6th is the feast of the great bishop, St. Nicholas. He was born in Bari, Italy around 270 AD. He became the bishop of Myra in Turkey. Finally, from the East we have two icons of this great saint. Let us ask St. Nicholas to give our bishops today the strength to stand up against heresy as he did and to protect the suffering among us. #stnicholasday #adventfeast #playallthechristmasmusicnow

Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us! A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was pregnant ... [Rev 12:1-2] #ourladyofguadalupe #adventfeast #prayfortheunborn #thewordiscatholic
