Finally got this necklace finished! It's been sitting on my bench since last year and went through a few different designs and shapes of labradorite beads till I was finally happy with the overall look and how it sat. I ended up using these very organic looking labradorite beads, I liked how they looked paired with the rustic sterling silver charms I made from my silver scraps (see previous post). Looks like an ancient, well-loved piece that's been handed down over generations. The main charm is the Virgin Mary / Our Lady of Guadalupe surrounded by various symbolic charms including a cross, dragonfly, lotus with crescent moon, hamsa, Sanskrit breathe, evil eye, and a lotus. The rustic paperclip extender chain also has a moon star charm. A little about our logo! 💙🙏🏽✨ The top part of the logo is Our Lady of Guadalupe, who appeared to Juan Diego in 1531 on Tepeyac Hill in Mexico (swipe to see the photos of my pilgrimage to the original Basilica in 2010). You can tell by the radiant lines shining out from behind her and she is holding the rosary in her prayer hands. Inspired by my family’s Mexican and Chicano heritage and our Catholic faith, OLG is very important in our home, culture and memories as a child. It is very normal to have a photo of her in every room or in my Grandma Irene’s case, a life size statue of her when you would walk into her home 🤪👍🏽 Below Mary, under our company name, are the roots of a coffee plant. I started my specialty coffee career with @vigilantecoffee and when we went on our company sourcing trip to Colombia I was deeply moved by getting stay on the farm we sourced from, meet their families, abuelita, eat with the farmers and even try to hand pick coffee cherries as fast as them. (swipe to see photos and note Mary was all over Colombia too💙) In that moment, I was united with the hard work of my own ancestors, of my grandparents and the sacrifices my parents made for me to have the opportunities they didn’t have. 🙏🏽 Being a Chicana is very important to me and it goes hand in hand with how God has shown up for all mi familia, especially in their journey to the US. My Dad always repeats the words of my Grandpa José, who swam across the Rio Grande from Chihuahua to El Paso, “Mija, the door is always open.” ✨ And so it is, the Milagros (miracles) God has set before us are NOT coincidences and like doors of opportunity we must embrace them, believe in them and walk through them. It takes great courage to have faith, religious or not, God will show up for you 💯. . In June 2022 we had a miscarriage. This was really hard because we were a newly wed couple who were so excited to start our new family! We named our baby Alex and made this prayer card to share with our loved ones and to remind us to pray for all unborn children.
