Continuing our tour of Allerton Castle, this post shows my favourite photos of the Dining Room. . On entering this beautiful room, you’d have no idea that everything you see is a modern recreation of the original 1850’s room, which completely perished in the fire in 2005, there was nothing left of John C Buckler’s glorious gothic design. . The fire even pulverised the huge marble chimney piece, and destroyed the original stained glass, but current owner Dr Rolph was determined to reconstruct the original design, and he’s done a fantastic job. . I used rose gold pinky tones on the eyes to make her blue eyes pop and a rosey pink cheek and lip. We tried lashes on her trial day as she had never had them before but she decided after wearing them for a while she would be more comfortable without, which just shows if there is ever a day to try things it is your trial day! Before the rain set in today I did manage to get a few photos of the beautiful wood bells we have on the estate at the moment( including a half-selfie). Bluebells under old trees is such an awesome sight- Photos never do it justice, so I urge you to go looking yourselves! Half of the world's bluebells grow on our tiny island, and I love seeing them. We've got a few albino ones this year- which if they are truly wild- makes them pretty rare. I love seeing them for the fairies,the folklore and the symbolism, but also to me they mean the trees will soon be in leaf! This is a project that me and @a_jbn have been discussing since he joined the team nearly a year ago, so it seems fitting in his final week that we have completed what I guess shall be referred to in the future as "Alex's swing". We have this beautiful Cedar of Lebanon tree in the grounds, that has an incredible aspect back to the building itself. It's in a wonderful quiet corner of the grounds, and hopefully will be a brilliant place for anyone to come sit and ponder, whilst surrounded by bird song and watching the swallows dart all over the place (I saw my first one today)!! After some sympathetic light pruning from Alex, the view is realised as we'd hoped, and it will be lovely to see people using this in the future. In conjunction with my previous reel of Allerton Castle, here’s my favourite photos of the Glorious Gothic Ballroom, showing that incredible ceiling in more detail. . This room was never completed in the Castles heyday, and even though it held some of the best views in the Castle it was known as the ‘box room’ and used for storage. In 1936 it was finally finished in some way, and turned into a Saloon, with lovely chandeliers and Chimneypiece, both of which were sold in 1965. . What you see today was designed and commissioned by current owner Dr Rolph, and is based on original blueprints of the Saloon in the original Gothic revival Eaton Hall in Cheshire, a design by William Porden. The only main difference is that the Saloon at Eaton was a light powder blue on the walls, which I imagine would also look incredible in this room. . The incredible plasterwork ceiling and groins were cast by a Leeds firm, the wooden carving was done by Tim Foster a local carver. The fireplace was carved in Carrara in Italy. . The gilt brass torcheres were purchased from Christie’s provenance unknown, and the central gilt brass chandelier is original to the house and was rediscovered in Paris, the other two are copies made in York foundry. . I had the pleasure of meeting Dr Rolph whilst at Allerton in his private apartments, and I congratulated him on what he’s done at Allerton, this room in particular, I feel is his lasting legacy, and for me to see a copy of an interior, of the earlier Gothic fantasy that was Eaton Hall was an absolute dream. . Allerton Castle in 2005 1/3 of the was destroyed by a fire seeing then the mammoth task of restoring it began. These shots are of the State Bedroom and State Dressing room which were designed and created by the staff of The Gerald Arthur Rolph Foundation for Historic Preservation and Education. The marble fireplace was carved in china, the furniture which replaced that lost in the fire were purchased through auction houses and antique stores across Europe. The State bed came from Dunect House in Scotland, with the fabric and the damask for the walls coming from Italy. Finally, what felt like the first sunny day of 2024 arrived!! Paul,our resident beekeeper came, and both our queens have survived winter in the hives. In conjunction with my previous reel, here’s my favourite photos of the Drawing Room at Allerton Castle, for you to ponder over in post form, there are quite a few as this room is a particular favourite of mine. . I had always wanted to see this room in the flesh, the colour combination has to be one of my favourites, I love the damask, and I have to say I love a bit of gilding, the room didn’t disappoint. A lovely feature of the room is the ceiling and cornice which were designed by Benjamin Baud. . the incredible Venetian chandelier is original to the house, which surprised me, I’ve never seen on quite like it, it’s considered to be the finest Venetian chandelier in England.According to family records, the chandelier was given to Charles, 20th Baron Stourton, by King Francesco II of Italy, and is 9ft 2inches in length. . Another incredible element of this room are the rococo gilt wood mirrors, which are thought to be by Chippendale, and we’re commissioned by Lord Hastings for #meltonconstablehall a beautiful house which sadly has an uncertain future at present. . The beautiful French wall scones date from the 1850’s, and the Chimneypiece is probably one of the finest in Gothic style in England. . The furniture is a mix of eighteenth century and late nineteenth century, and the portraits of King George II and Queen Caroline are copies of originals by Charles Jarvis, one hangs in the National Portrait Gallery the other at Beningborough Hall. . In conjunction with my previous reel, here’s my favourite photos of the Great Hall at Allerton Castle. . This Gothic masterpiece was designed by George Martin, for Charles 19th Baron Stourton, completed in the early 1850’s. . The extraordinary hammer beam roof is reminiscent of Henry ViII’s banqueting Hall at Hampton Court Palace, and towers 70ft above the floor. . The Torcherss either side of the staircase were purchased from a house in London by current owner Dr Rolph, they caused havoc with my photos and videos, but look incredibly at the bottom of the stairs. . I will feature the upper part of the Hall with what’s known as the Angel Gallery, staircase and Ante Hall separately. . The last couple of days have seen miserable wet conditions return, with much cooler temperatures up t'north. Was a joy to see these Alder catkins- about the only yellow thing i saw in the sky this week, but still a sign that early spring has arrived!! Alder is monoecious- fancy way of saying that it has both female and male flowers, and unlike me, it loves the wet conditions! WEDDING CAKE ON 35MM Film ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Felcia pulled together a British Dream Team for her UK Wedding at the incredible Allerton Castle. This cake from Ard Bakery gave off 80s vibes that hinted at the surprise spectacle that they had lined up for the guests later in the evening - the Ghostbusters car turning up. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We had already photographed the traditional set up with her and Garrett cutting the cake but later on as she was taking a second with the cake, I whipped out a little point-and-shoot camera for a candid feel. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now I know what you are thinking, did this cake taste as good as it looked? In the interests of research, I did try all layers after it had been served and can report back that yes, it was utterly delicious.
