Jameszoo is the stage name of Mitchel van Dinther from 's-Hertogenbosch 🇳🇱 as a producer of experimental, electronic jazz. Metropole Orchestra | Dutch broadcasting orchestra, formed by Dolf van der Linden in 1945. The orchestra has worked with a wide range of international artists throughout its history, playing a repertoire of cabaret, film music, musicals, jazz and pop. In 2013 he attended the Red Bull Music Academy in New York, where he had the opportunity to work with people he would not have met in the Netherlands. During his stay in New York he met Flying Lotus, American beat producer and owner of the Brainfeeder label. This year he also collaborated with Flying Lotus bassist Thundercat, Hannibal and performed several times with The Gaslamp Killer. The song 'Flu' on side C2 comes from an album called 'Fool'. On the 'Flu' song there is a collaboration with #ArthurVerocai, the great and well-known Brazilian songwriter, arranger, conductor, and guitar player. Soundsofmusic, het “festival voor nieuwsgierige oren” komt weer naar Stad. Het meerdaagse evenement keert jaarlijks terug, dit jaar van 31 oktober tot en met 5 november, en heeft shows op locaties zoals de Martinikerk, Akerk, Oosterpoort en het Grand Theatre. ENG On Saturday night, Jameszoo hosts a live music relay, in which musicians interact with each other and with Jameszoo's piano installation "Game of Telephone. How it works. A musician starts improvising solo, then after five minutes the next musician joins in for a duet. After five minutes, the first one stops and another new musician joins in for a duet, and so on and so forth. These musicians from the jazz/improv scene are participating in this experiment: Ada Rave, Ben van Gelder, Dodó Kis, Ernst Glerum, Genevieve Murphy, Jamie Peet, Niels Broos and Sanem Kalfa. Musical Utopias is returning to Korzo in January! This multidisciplinary festival explores the relationship we as humans have with our environment and social and political activism. He is impressed by the artist’s bizarre self-portraits and artistic attitude, having seen Akkerman’s work in a museum. Akkerman does not know the young jazz musician then, but is a great admirer from the moment Jameszoo’s music resounds from his speakers. One of the 3 rooms in Nest is called Philip. The starting point for this space is the musical piece "Philip" composed by Jameszoo. He took inspiration for the composition from Philip Akkerman's more than 4.500 self-portraits. In an accompanying video clip (to be seen in the front space of Nest), he edited in 4.25 minutes more than 4.000 portraits one after the other in rapid succession. Physically, it is impossible for the brain to process the individual paintings, creating an allegory of "the self- portrait" of Akkerman. The space simulates the music video, where, like a surrealistic choreography, 350 of Akkerman's self- portraits connect with Jameszoo's composition. Come see it yourself. Yesterday I got a peek at the installation Telephone by @philip_akkerman & @jameszoooo which opens today at @nestruimte in Den Hague and my mind is still buzzing from the experience and the story behind it. Comprising some 350 self-portraits by the Dutch national treasure that is Akkerman, the presentation brings to life a video clip that the two artists collaborated on a few years ago. But let's rewind a bit to get the full understanding... • Around 2016, the experimental jazz musician #Jameszoo contacted #PhilipAkkerman with a request for portrait artwork for an album cover. After that, the painter was working on a large book that is showing a selection of 175 paintings at full size, and instead of including a boring text (there is a message for me in there), he asked the musician to write him a composition that would accompany the publication. Composition Philip turned into an EP, and for the video clip, he used 4,000 self-portraits, squeezing the past 4 decades of Akkerman's work into 4 minutes of hypnotizing stroboscopic frenzy (last slide). • Jameszoo recently proposed to transform the clip into a real-life experience, presenting a large selection of paintings in a similar manner - a space plastered floor to ceiling w 350 pictures, with 4 beamers projecting spotlights in a randomly generated pattern. From realistic renditions, over illustrative, expressive, and more experimental approaches, all the way to pure blobs, Akkerman's unparalleled practice is influenced by Schopenhauer's theory of blind will. That, and unceasing love for painting. And seeing the works presented like this makes it feel like this was what he was always building toward - a universe of images that pay tribute to the wonder of human existence and the beauty of painting, with the viewer observing it from inside. • The presentation also includes a large mural, a painterly game of Telephone organized by @robertkusmirowski which started with making a replica of one of the self-portraits, as well as an installation by Jameszoo with 3 pianos that play the game of Telephone starting with the composition Philip and improvising on it for the duration of the exhibition.
