⛏It has begun! ⛏ On Saturday, April 27, Consul General Osumi joined Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, Mayor London Breed, Assemblymember Phil Ting, and members of the San Francisco Japantown community in a ceremony organized by San Francisco Rec and Park Department and Japantown Task Force to break ground on the Japantown Peace Plaza Renovation Project. At the heart of Japantown’s neighborhood and community, the 32,000-square-foot Peace Plaza was built in the 1960s and is home to the iconic Peace Pagoda, donated to San Francisco by the city of Osaka in 1968. The renovation will waterproof and redesign the plaza, ensuring future generations can enjoy this public space which also serves as a venue to events like the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival and Nihonmachi Street Fair.
