Did you know it's a common misconception that air plants only require air to survive? They do not need soil - but they DO need water💦!! And lots of bright, indirect sun ☀️ Air plants are either epiphytes, plants that grow on other plants (typically trees), or lithophytes, plants that grow on sand, rocks, or roofs (think desert dwellers). They grow by absorbing water and nutrients from the air through tiny scales on their leaves, called trichomes. Give them a dunk once a week and mist (or provide humidity) regularly. The darker green and smoother they are, the longer you can let them soak (up to 15 minutes). If they are fuzzy and silver, just a quick dunk will do! Sunday fun day 🐍 A snake removal call from a couple years ago has turned into an annual yearly visit to this property in north central Pennsylvania. The owner and caretaker of this property loved rattlesnakes and coexisted and lived with them there for many years. After his death in 2021 I was contacted by his widow to remove some rattlesnakes that were in a small attached greenhouse at the cabin there. She didn’t want the snakes there but she did not want them killed or harmed in anyway either. Stacy and myself along with our friend Matt Wilson safely removed seven rattlesnakes from this tiny confined junk filled greenhouse. Needless to say we had a blast! It was the most epic and fun filled snake removals of our entire careers to date! The snakes were safely relocated nearby to an old foundation. The widow and her family couldn’t have been happier with our work that day, and she has invited us back time and time again now to keep an eye on the snakes and move them if need be. She has tried to pay us in the past, but ultimately their fascination and willingness to continue to coexist with the reptiles is our ultimate reward. What started out as a snack for the babies turned into a bath for the ducks and then Junior came over and decided to crow like he'd "found" food, so all the other hens came over to clean up after the babies.
