Last night I went for a walk with my husband and he showed me his worn out slides. But one shoe was more worn than the other. I was reminded of a post I wrote a couple years ago about how the wear and tear on our shoes can tell a story about our life and how we move through it. I have recently updated this post. Click link in my bio to read it! The wear on your shoes will indicate where you place most of your weight. And from this, I can tell you fairly accurately where you're tight and what your posture is like. There are 3 primary patterns (that results from unconscious movements or actions): 1. more internally rotated legs and everted ankles, which corresponds with rounded shoulders 2. more externally rotated legs and inverted ankles, which corresponds with arched back 3. unevenness in weight in one side of body over the other, usually due to habit or injury, which corresponds to pain or tightness on one side (e.g. left arm, or right knee) And you can have a combination of these, too. Do you know about our primitive reflexes? As infants, we all have reflexes that help us develop more complex motor movements over time. These reflexes get integrated as babies grow and are an integral part in how babies learn to roll, sit, crawl, and eventually stand! When these reflexes persist and don’t become “integrated” it makes more complex movement difficult and can interfere with daily activities. . For kids, this can mean difficulties in school like basic functions of sitting upright at the desk- do you see kids with their head on their arm while writing? Could be an un-integrated reflex... difficulty reading right to left? Could be an un-integrated reflex making crossing midline challenging. . Simple exercises like crossing opposite sides, being on all fours (hello tummy time!), and feeling the body move rhythmically can help children develop more complex movements. It helps with body awareness and spatial relations with our body! . If your child has some of these difficulties it is always a good idea to look into these reflexes and see if they are persisting and contributing to the difficulty. . Join Isabelle Renard-Fontaine, PT June 27-June 29 for MNRI® Archetype Movement Integration Cost: $645 To register: https://masgutovamethod.com/events #dv.i1299 Questions: email [email protected] MNRI® Archetype Movement techniques work to activate and engage archetype movements that, for various reasons, have remained dormant in the body. Archetype movements, less complex in nature than motor reflex patterns or schemes, are among the first reflexive movements to develop and emerge. Once engaged, archetype movements remain present and active in the body, allowing normal range and flexibility of motion while providing support, balance, and stability for the upper and lower, left and right, and front and back parts of the body. Archetype motor movements also play a subordinate role in the maturation and integration of progressively more complex reflexes, including primary motor reflex patterns, motor reflex schemes, and the development of learned motor skills. If an archetype movement is not appropriately engaged, its impact can be great given the subordinate role it plays in maturation and development. We encourage parents and professionals interested in learning more about the MNRI Method and its various programs to attend this course early on, given the fundamental role it plays in overall development. . . The MNRI® Archetype Movement Integration course explores: . . -The general MNRI Method and the role played by the Archetype Movement Program . -The progression of motor movements beginning in utero and continuing through life . -Archetype motor movements and how they relate to primary motor reflex patterns and important coordination systems . -The role archetype motor movements play in establishing a foundation for motor, communication and cognitive development, and emotional and behavioral regulation . -MNRI techniques designed to assess and facilitate the maturation and integration of archetype motor movements . -How to create MNRI archetype maturation programs for individual clients . . -How to incorporate use of the MNRI Archetype Motor Movement course content into daily client and home practice.
