Shake your hips to release Trauma. Did you know that trauma and emotional distress Trauma isn’t just something that happens in our minds, it can manifest in our bodies on a cellular level. When we experience trauma, whether it’s a single event or prolonged stress, our bodies react by storing that energy in our cells. Over time, this can lead to physical tension, chronic pain, and even illness. But here’s the good news: mindful movements offer a pathway to release that trapped energy and restore balance to our bodies and minds. By engaging in mindful movements, we not only release tension in our muscles but also create space for healing on a deeper level. As we move and breathe mindfully, we invite awareness and compassion into every cell of our being, allowing us to gently unravel the knots of trauma that may have been holding us back. My personal favorite mindful movement is “Yoga Movements” mixed with strength exercises on a weekly basis to stretch and strengthen my body. And the most special movements that I have done has been “Ecastatic Dance” in Bali and my “Pole Dance” routine in Cape Town. I’ve never felt as free and connected with as myself as I did during that Ecstatic Dance DJ Set. And doing “Pole Dancing” is through and through a manifestation of pushing through pain on a continuous basis to keep getting to your goal. It’s a profound practice for pain understanding and sensual exploration. What are your favorite mindful movements? Attention and Focus: Anxiety can lead to difficulties in maintaining attention and focus, as individuals may become preoccupied with worry or fear. This can result in decreased productivity and performance on tasks requiring sustained attention, such as studying or completing assignments. Working Memory: Anxiety can impair working memory, the ability to hold and manipulate information in the mind for short periods. Individuals experiencing anxiety may have trouble recalling information or following multi-step instructions, affecting their ability to problem-solve and make decisions effectively. Cognitive Flexibility: Anxiety can restrict cognitive flexibility, the capacity to adapt to changing demands or perspectives. Individuals may become rigid or stuck in their thinking patterns, finding it challenging to consider alternative solutions or approaches to tasks or problems. Emotional Regulation: Anxiety can interfere with emotional regulation, making it difficult for individuals to manage their emotions appropriately. The tendency to snap at others or feel irritable can be traced back to childhood trauma. Raised by narcissistic and controlling parents, the child was rarely given the opportunity to express their self or have needs acknowledged. Instead, they were met with criticism and invalidated at every turn, leaving them feeling voiceless and powerless. As adults, these individuals carry the imprint of their traumatic upbringing, perceiving any request or perceived lack of understanding from others through the lens of their past experiences. I used to believe that chronic pain defined my life. It consumed my thoughts, making me feel like I couldn't engage in activities I once loved. The pain overshadowed everything, leaving me feeling embarrassed about my limitations and disconnected from the things and people that brought me joy. My quality of life started to take a turn for the worst, and I withdrew into a cycle of negative emotions and self-doubt. But then, something remarkable happened. I experienced a breakthrough that changed my perspective entirely. Instead of allowing chronic pain to dictate my life, I began to challenge some things. First – my perspective and how I understood pain to work. Then I took a look at my language, my narrative, the language my doctors used with me, my thoughts. and beliefs. Slowly but surely, I started reintroducing meaningful activities into my life. A changed perspective and a focus on rewriting the way I was talking about my pain helped, but positive thinking can only take you so far. I coupled that with pacing and designing my day in a really specific way. By taking small steps toward the things that were important for me, I found that I was able to be more distracted from pain, my mood improved, and I was able to connect more with loved ones. Slowly I reclaimed a sense of purpose and distraction. Through small steps and consistent effort, I found myself experiencing moments of joy again… even vitality. The struggles associated with learning disabilities and dyslexia CAN be eliminated. The brain research over the last 40 years has shown us that the brain has neuroplasticity, or the ability to rewire itself, to develop new more effective pathways for learning through intensive and targeted training. — The key is that we have to be training the right thing! When student is struggling with reading, we can give them lots and lots more reading practice, but if we really want to change the problem permanently, we have to figure out what’s at the root of the problem to begin with. Why does this bright child struggle to do something that the other kids in the class are doing pretty easily? That usually goes back to some area of underlying skills that are weak or inefficient or underdeveloped. Skills like: ✅ auditory or visual processing ✅ processing speed ✅ language processing ✅ memory ✅ attention The good news is that these are all skills that can be trained! Allt som oftast sköter den det själv, ibland blir det obalans och då kan vi medvetet behöva göra saker för att hjälpa kroppen på traven. Vissa av de övningar eller tekniker som kallas nervsystemsreglerande kan absolut hjälpa dig med balansen, eller så är det helt verkningslösa, eller så kan de bidra till att bibehålla eller förvärra dysregleringen - precis som allt annat i livet. ❕Ingen övning, ingen händelse, är reglerande eller dysreglerande för alla eller i alla lägen! 📢 Djupgående kunskap om människans psykofysiologi - vetenskapen om hur vår psykologi och fysiologi hänger ihop, hur de påverkar och påverkas av varandra och andra faktorer - ger förståelse för alla våra inneboende systems funktion, syfte och samverkan. Det ger också förståelse att ingen övning eller strategi kan heller ”återställa” ett nervsystem som är allvarligt dysreglerat. Du kan inte skaka bort din stress eller ditt trauma, kan inte kroppsgäspa dig tillbaka från utmattning eller utbrändhet, inte putta dig fri från blockerade mönster eller yoga dig till en annan anknytningsstil. Det finns ingen 1-2-3-handlingsplan för alla, nervsystemsreglering är inte en snabb-fix-lösning. 🍑🧠 Atlanta is delicious but also I’m here for a BIGGER reason; Finishing my rehabilitation at Shepherd’s Complex Concussion Center. And then *drumroll* I’m going to MOVE ON! We go where we look, and I’ve been visualizing this era. 🙏🏼 THE PORT, WELL WORTH THE CRUISE, IS NEAR, AND EVERY WAVE IS CHARMED. -Emerson 🧠 For the neurds: Now that autonomics are solid cognition is clear (surprise, having a fully perfused brain brings clarity!) and we can address remaining “top of brain” stuff. I’m on a five week program, mostly neck PT, visual/sensory habituation and overriding learned compensations. Overall, wouldn’t trade what’s still “not quite right” for the somatosensory superpowers unlocked. And overall, it hasn’t been the big hospital stuff that’s moved the needle most for me but this is a great place to tighten remaining nuts and bolts. The after action report on this recovery mission is gonna be epic.

Want to give yourself the best chance to thrive in life? Then feed your brain the right foods. 🍇🫛🫐🥬 One of the reasons I am advocate for small consistent changes is because this work requires a lot of energy in your brain. New neural pathways in the brain need to be formed in order to make these changes stick (neuroplasticity) and in order to do that, the brain needs optimum conditions to thrive in as well as rest. 🧠 Overdo it and you’ll begin to feel like you’re running on empty and more likely to give up! 🤯 I’m sure you can recall a time when you had a particularly mentally stimulating day, where you are having to pay attention a bit more than you usually do. It leaves you feeling tired. 🥱 This is because your brain is having to work a little harder to process this information. So, with a person who is actively implementing a series of small changes to better themselves, their brain wants to conserve energy. They will not only feel more tired, but the brain will trick them into thinking what they’re doing is unsafe because it’s using more energy BUT this is essential to persevere through to rewire your brain for lasting change. It’s a gym workout for your brain. You feel a little uncomfortable and tired at first, but after a few weeks / months, you’ve successfully formed and strengthened the new neural pathways with supportive thoughts and habits and moved your energy away from the unhelpful old ones. And YAY for dark chocolate!
