De camping is weer leeggestroomd maar we genieten nog even na. Van afgelopen weekend, de mensen, de busjes, de muziek en al het andere verwachte en onverwachte. Ondanks het Hollandse weer was het fantastisch met alles met en zonder wielen. Van startproblemen tot brandweersirenes. Van ukelele tot yoga, van headbangen tot een traantje van ontroering bij de kampvuursessies. Er komt meestal al een hoop mooie zooi langs maar Gek op de Weg is toch wel speciaal. De voertuigen, de gekkigheid maar vooral ook de saamhorigheid. Wat hebben we weer genoten van alle mensen die de camping en sfeer hebben gemaakt. 🇫🇷/🇺🇸 Retour sur le convoyage du bus américain 🚌 Après plus de 1100km sous la pluie en deux jours me voilà à la maison 😃 Je suis parti en train mercredi matin pour aller en Belgique retrouver le bus. Jeudi matin, il ne démarre pas, les batteries sont mortes. Changement de batteries et c’est parti direction Soumagne à côté de Liège afin de récupérer les fauteuils intérieurs.💺 Un énorme merci à @alessio_maton et Julien pour leur aide si précieuse !! Je pars enfin de Soumagne jeudi soir ! 😃 Je me suis retrouvé bloqué derrière un gros convoi exceptionnel qui transportait une pale d’éolienne sur la route. Je m’arrête dans la nuit quelque part en France pour dormir dans le bus sur un matelas. Puis c’est reparti vendredi toute la journée. Sur le chemin un petit coup de nettoyage extérieur s’impose. 🧼 Je suis arrivé en fin d’après-midi. La route s’est très bien passée, aucune panne ! Et je peux vous dire qu’il est bien plus confortable que Bobby !! Pas besoin de boules Quies et pas mal aux fesses 😂 🇺🇸 Let’s talk about our Bus transportation 🚌 After more than 700 miles under the rain in 2 days, we are finally back home 😊 I left South West of France Wednesday morning to go to Belgium by train to take our bus home. Thursday morning : the bus doesn’t start… batteries do not work anymore. We found a used battery to start the bus to go to Soumagne to get back all the seats inside the bus. 💺 We took the opportunity to change the batteries with new ones. Thursday night : departure from Soumagne to South West of France. I was locked behind a wind turbine blade transport 😅 I stopped in the night to sleep inside the bus on an inflatable mattress. Friday : I drove all the day. In my way I cleaned the bus 🧼 I finally arrived home Friday afternoon. The trip went well with no mechanical issue. I can now say that this bus is clearly more confortable than Bobby ! After getting the air tanks mounted, and the air compressor in, I decided to mount the “train” horns Just behind the front steps, aiming both backwards and slightly down, to avoid water filling the trumpets. Running the hydraulic lines from the HWH pump and control box to all four jacks. (See previous posts to see how I cut the leveling system off a Motorhome and made the custom brackets for everything to fit the bus) Running the hydraulic lines is pretty simple, you just wanna make sure that the hydraulic lines don’t rub anything constantly, so anywhere it is touching metal I sleeve the hydraulic line with a piece of garden hose. Second thing is to keep the hydraulic lines away from the exhaust and any other heat sources. I wound up doing four total layers of fiberglass. It was interesting getting the fiberglass to work on the underside, I explained how I did it in the video. I wound up going inside and cutting out all of the wood that I used as backing originally for the fiberglass, that way I could add more fiberglass and reinforce the joints from the inside. after the second layer of fiberglass I had to get another 5 gallons of resin, and a little bit more chopped strand mat. I also decided to purchase a Tyvek suit and goggles, because doing the fiberglass upside down laying there I was getting some resin on my skin. The Hardner methyl Ethel ketone peroxide causes blindness so I really didn’t want to get it in my eyes. Even in dust form it can cause blindness. After I got all of the layers of fiberglass I sanded the entire thing with a 40 grit on my pneumatic random orbital sander. My 20 gallon Harbor freight air compressor has been kicking ass so far. Couches:✔️ Two of the things at the top of our priority list was space to entertain and an ample amount of storage. These 6ft babies were a labor of love but gives us the opportunity to do both!! One slides out into a full size bed and they both lift up so we can access whatever we decide to store underneath. We are not carpenters, we are not handy, and this bus pushes us past our comfort zones; but man it is such an extraordinary feeling knowing we are building OUR home with our OWN hands. Andddd we’re back! 😎 Apologies for being MIA for the past several months. I am not the best at posting updates on social media. 😅 That being said, we have worked super hard on the bus and we can’t wait to show you what we have done! Die letzen Tage haben wir im @rainbow_caravan_ Hostel verbracht 🌈 🚌 Ich hab mich direkt in den Ort verliebt und auf Anhieb wohl gefühlt 🙏🏽 Wir haben in einem alten ausgebauten Schulbus geschlafen mitten im Dschungel 💚 Für mich hat der Ort eine ganz besondere Energie, in der Früh wird man von Vogelgezwitscher und den Lauten der Brüllaffen geweckt 😊 Auf dem Weg in die Gemeinschaftsküche durften wir immer einige Tiere beobachten. Woooo one side of the door is done and curing! Seth’s face says it all🤣🤣 (A door update) There’s something about building something unique with your own two hands that is such a humbling experience. We could definitely say that for this whole bus build, but let’s just talk about the door today🤠 The past few weeks seth has been working so hard on this beautiful custom front door, and it looked great! The time had finally come to put it on the hinges and…it was a few inches too short😂😅 after tossing some ideas around it was decided that we would just build the door jam a little lower by adding a piece into the gap(shown in pictures). Then there’s me. what’s missing in this pic? yup, we ripped our door off! while we were excited to get started on our subfloor, we knew that we really shouldn’t move forward with it until the bus was completely shut and sealed from all weather. Our door has been half disassembled for a while now, with plans to add some aluminum where the old rubber weather seal was and also to reinforce the inside of the bifold door to make it open like a residential door. Then the bid for the aluminum came in…$500😬 and that without us replacing the glass that has weldbeads on it… So, we chose another route😃 we decided to make a solid wood door instead. Complete with an RV window or two, the whole door finished will cost about the same as just the aluminum bid alone but be something we really love! So this weekend we had to take the door out to take correct measurements, and to work! I just realized I never got around to sharing the top view of the finished skylights, so here they are!🤩 We originally planned to have 3 skylights, with one more over our shower. That one would have had to been mounted more to the side of the roof, which means we would have to do extra framework to make it level, welding, and more possibility of leaking. We were willing and ready to do all that, but ultimately once the second one was in we felt content with just those two! We also will have our max air fan in the hall outside the bathroom to let the steam from showers escape.
