I’m still learning what it means to truly love my body. In my teens and twenties, loving my body really just meant loving the way it looked. When I felt thin or in-shape, it wasn’t actually even love I felt, but almost a sense of approval. Like the way a parent might feel toward a child who behaved themselves at church. Not love, but relief that the child was able to keep herself quiet long enough to not make a scene and embarrass the whole family. I thought that to feel actual love for my body, that I would have to love the way it looks. I’d have to appreciate the dimples or embrace the imperfections. But on Friday, around mile 12 of the Boulder Skyline Traverse, coming up the west approach for Bear Peak which is a total grind, I looked down at my legs and felt a wave of love. Not for the way they looked, but for their strength and commitment to getting me up that mountain, and eventually through 18 miles and 6k of elevation gain that day. I felt like a team with my body. Like we were in this together. Like she was counting on me for the food, water, breaks and encouragement. And her way of thanking me was to crush those uphill climbs. I used to feel like my body owed me something. Bellini's at Beaver Brook Well…spring time in Colorado always brings questionable weather, but that didn’t phase these brave souls! They had a beautiful snowy hike on the Beaver Brook/Chavez Trail Loop near Genesee Park this past weekend. They also had first tracks along the trail and only ran into a few other people throughout the hike. Midway through the hike, in true wine hiker style, they toasted to more fun adventures while enjoying our Bellini's and snacks near the stream at the bottom of the loop before climbing back out. This trail is roughly 5.5 miles in total with a little over 1,000ft of elevation gain in the last 2.5 miles. What a fun day! Thanks for joining us and CO WHS Ambassador Berkley A, ladies! Although we should be celebrating our parks all year long...it's #nationalparkweek and I have had a great time re-living all my favorite park trips. My only trip to #rockymountainnationalpark was in 2018 and I need to get back. In Rocky Mountain National Park, a change of weather can be just a short walk away and that it was.
