As told by their playing Captain, Tommy Kleinhans ( @tommykleinhans7 ), “The Horsemen are chomping at the hay to get back on the course as one Unit. The vibes are more of an electric energy right now: we’re connecting the current, watching the light bulbs go off in training, and making sure the batteries are charged.” Tommy has been a fierce competitor since his he stepped onto the scene, and is known as a natural leader of men (and horses). Which teammate is he most excited to see perform? “…it’s hard to put one particular guy in front of another. Congratulations to sophomore Jason Martin on earning All-American honors at the 2024 ACWA War At The Shore Folkstyle Nationals! After dropping his first match of the tournament, Jason battled all the way back to a sixth place finish in a tough 197lb weight class. Facing opponents from throughout the Northeast, Martin proved that he could battle with the best of them. Not to be forgotten is the effort of Chris Notti. Notti compuled a 4-2 record over the 2-day tournament and missed placing by 1 match in a brutal 140lb weight class. This weekend, Diesel Wrestling Academy shone at the War at the Shore, featuring our dedicated youth, men, and women wrestlers. This event drew top talent from across the nation, setting the stage for fierce competition.Many of our female athletes dove into freestyle wrestling for the first time, showcasing remarkable progress after less than a month of training. We’re committed to honing our skills, collaborating with esteemed clinicians like Joker Wrestling’s Gerard Perez, who brings a wealth of knowledge in wrestling, especially freestyle. Our journey also includes visits from East Stroudsburg and Ursinus University wrestlers, enriching our learning experience.A highlight was our clinic and college tour with Misericordia University, led by Head Coach Ken Chertow, under whom I’ll have the privilege of working and learning from July 13-28. We’re also thrilled to welcome Cindy Calixto, Alvernia University’s Head Coach and an active competitor, to our academy. Learning from such experts empowers us to adopt best practices in our training.Our girls faced tough competition but demonstrated excellence, securing wins and enduring losses with grace. For me, the true thrill lies in competing for state, national, and world titles through sanctioned events. We’re eyeing developmental tournaments ahead, offering a platform for growth and learning.An interesting twist saw some of our girls competing against each other, providing a unique, low-pressure opportunity to explore freestyle wrestling in a competitive setup.The boys showed commendable effort, despite some facing challenges due to their relative newness to the sport. 2nd Annual War At The Shore 7v7 The tournament will be held Sunday, February 25th beginning at 9am at Bay Shore High School. This will be an 8 team tournament raising money for the One Love Foundation. One Love Foundation is a national non-profit organization with the goal of ending relationship abuse. Awards will be awarded to the tournament winning team, offensive MVP, defensive MVP, and individuals of the all tournament team. The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island seems an appropriate spot for the last round and the last post of my year. It’s the first “great” course I ever played, and a place I love spending December afternoons - even when it’s chilly and windy. - Thank you to all of you for your support in 2023. As a result of that support, we’ve been able to donate tens of thousands of dollars to animal welfare, dog rescue and other charities. - 2.
