Sometimes the most important part of our response is what happens after we clear the scene. Engine 4-A responded to a female who suffered an accidental fall on the patio outside her home. The woman was found in a great deal of pain and had unfortunately broken her hip. It was determined that the fall was caused by uneven concrete on her patio damaged from not being able to shed water. On the day she returned home after surgery, a hospital stay and physical rehabilitation Rita suffered another fall at the same spot on her patio. Thankfully no injuries occurred this time, but @tuk.tuck_ and @sonnysef and the probie recognized that something needed to be done. They contacted @firefightersrandomacts who partnered with @tlcplumbing who quickly got the damaged concrete removed, the grade fixed, added a drain and new pad poured. Great job to all involved! My favorite all time pic for reaching 1500 followers! This was a fire that we rolled up on enroute to a community event. We had forcible entry obstacles and once we got in it lit up on us. Not sure if it flashed on us or just flow pathed us but either way it was a close call and we were swimming in fire. Nobody got hurt and we all learned from it. Engine 4 was standing tall and all of the crew did a great job. We caught our own supply and had every line down. This structure has since been torn down. December numbers are in. Engine 4 responded to 310 calls for service bringing the 2018 total to 3,522 responses. That is down from 3,911 in 2017 which shows the positive impact of placing Rescue 4 back into service. Engine 4 is a steady truck, but not one of the busiest engine companies in terms of call volume and 2018 was another record breaking year for Albuquerque Fire Rescue, so I’m interested to see where the really busy units end up. Conventional forcible entry isn’t always an option, particularly on commercial structures. Commercial board ups provide even greater challenges. In this case metal strap was welded to the door and jamb on the lock side. Ladder 13 firefighter attacked the hinges with a K12 and then went back to work with the halligan to finish the door. Great job to everyone on scene. This structure fire at a vacant commercial building with a sub level provided many obstacles to overcome. The SW Brewery building was built in 1899 and is one of Albuquerque’s only remaining 19th Century Buildings. A fire in 1998 destroyed the warehouse and mechanical room on the south side of the complex. The Rio Grande Caboose was built in 1942 in Denver, Co. It was in service until 2003. Station inspections happen 3 times a year. One per battalion. The station floors are waxed, PPE inspected and apparatus inventory is verified. This is a spare rig, 2006 Pierce Dash with 144K mikes on the clock. The occupant removed from the elevator was his fathers brother. You just never know who you whose path you will cross when working with the public. The October numbers are in. Engine 4 responded to 303 calls for service last month bringing the 2018 total to 2,909 calls. Apparatus day is my favorite weekly duty, however dumping, cleaning and reloading 1000’ of 5” is not. Engine 4 had a dirty supply stretch to Engine 6 so the LDH had to be pulled off to cleaned. It’s not always fun but it has to get done. Take care of your equipment and it will take care of you. Throw back to 2015, driving Ladder 13. In 2015 AFR ran 94,390 calls for service. We have already surpassed that number in 2018 and the year isn’t over. We are on pace to do 110,000 calls for service this year. AFR responds out of 22 stations, running 22 engines, 22 rescues, 7 ladders and 3 squads. Working an overtime at Engine 3. We have a probie firefighter and an upgraded driver so we did a quick water/changeover drill. The goal is always to have a stretched and charged line in service in under a minute. You can never stretch too often or pump too much.
