I am lucky to generally find blue green elfcups (Chlorociboria fungi) in the woods year round - unless there's not been enough rain. The past few summers have been brutal though. The #galapagos #carpenterbee is the only endemic #bee species in the #galapagosislands . It plays a vital role in pollinating a large portion of the plants found across the archipelago. Its name is derived from the females ability to create a burrow into wood to lay their eggs. These #bees are surprisingly large but pretty harmless unless you harass them. It’s amazing to see how even here 600 miles offshore of #ecuador that #nature found a way to have an ecosystem work. The Galapagos are particularly fragile, and invasive insects or even birds could on d decimate this bee population, leaving the islands without their primary pollinators. The children in Sunflowers room at #wintonnursery have been continuing their exploration of different roles through their play. This inviting set up was aimed at getting children thinking about what it might be like to be a train driver, and also allowed staff to introduce and reinforce some key vocabulary such as "railway", "passengers" and "station" 🚄 It certainly had the desired impact!
