We Had: ◼️Cucumber & cream cheese fingers ◼️Egg mayo & cress fingers ◼️Smoked salmon fingers ◼️Ham & English mustard fingers ◼️Traditional all butter scones, fruit & plain with British strawberry & raspberry preserves & Cornish clotted cream. ◼️Lemon meringue pie ◼️Victoria Sponge ◼️Chocolate eclair ◼️Gin and lime pebble 🫖English breakfast tea I loved the finger sandwiches A LOT. My favourite had to be the egg mayo and cress fingers and the smoked salmon fingers. The scones had a slightly crumbly texture with a buttery rich flavour. The lemon meringue pie was not nice, but the Victoria sponge was amazing. The sponge itself was light and airy with a hint of vanilla flavour while the sweet raspberry jam added a fruity tanginess. I did not really enjoy the chocolate eclair as I am not really a fan of dark chocolate but if you like dark chocolate you would love it! The gin and lime pebble was very tasty, it was like a green jelly on a shortbread. We started with a glass of the bubbly followed by finger sandwiches and our first cup of tea: ~Severn & Wye smoked salmon with lemon and dill crème fraiche on rye bread ~Roast chicken with honey mustard and baby gem lettuce on granary bread ~Roasted ham with tomato relish, crispy shallots and rocket on onion bread ~Egg mayonnaise with watercress on white bread ~English cucumber with mint cream cheese on white bread Scones were then served with clotted cream and tea jam. There is some contention here. Cream first, then jam, or vice-versa. Lori settled on the cream first approach recommended by our Daughter-in-law who is from England. I opted for the jam first approach favored by Queen Elizabeth. The final course in a traditional afternoon tea are the pastries. Establishment and Ambience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Lanesborough’s has a richly decorated dining room, naturally illuminated during the day by a domed glass roof. Such a beautiful elegant room. There was no pianist or any music, so you could easily hear your other companions. Level of Service ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Unfortunately I just wasn’t impressed by the level of service we received. I have given it a 3 for average but for this level of establishment it was quite poor. The attention to detail certainly wasn’t there, I had to look around and wait to find a server near by to get tea replenishments etc. The one positive was we certainly didn’t feel rushed! Food ⭐️⭐️⭐️ The sandwiches were most enjoyable, and again I liked the different varieties of bread. As we didn’t have the salmon we were asked which additional sandwich we would like. The scones I thought were doughy, I really didn’t like the texture. The jam although quite plentiful just ran straight off the spoon. The petite fours were a no for me. I completely disliked that one was to share. I am one of those people who never likes to share food and I really found this to be in very poor taste to have to deal with at afternoon tea when out with friends. The petite fours whilst pretty to look at, were just too much mess and fluff. Tea and Tea Ware ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Being in such a fabulous Georgian dining room plain white cups, saucers and plates seemed a little boring, but I really liked the silver teapots, milk jugs and sugar bowls. Value for money ⭐️⭐️ This afternoon tea was priced at just £80. In my honest opinion, spend the extra £5 and take afternoon tea at the Ritz, that extra £5 gets you a whole different experience. I honestly felt like I was paying for the association with Bridgerton.
