The Mwanza flat-headed rock agama, also known as the Spider-Man agama, is a lizard found in Tanzania, Rwanda, and Kenya. It lives in semi-desert areas and likes to sunbathe on rocks during the day. Male agamas have bright red or violet heads, necks, and shoulders, with dark blue bodies like this one. Females are mostly brown and can be hard to tell apart from females of other agama species. People often mistake it for the red-headed rock agama. Males are territorial and usually have around five mates. To attract a female, males do fancy head movements. These newly hatched frilled dragons are a bittersweet success. Their mother had passed from egg binding and I had to take her eggs (these babies) from her myself… But thankfully, ~85 days later they successfully hatched out into healthy, active dragons! I picked up this pair of painted agamas a couple weeks back at a Repticon. The female laid some eggs a few days after I got them, not sure if the eggs will make it since she’d been moved around so much before I got her but I’m incubating them and hoping for the best. Either way this is a really underrated species that is basically Africa’s version of a bearded dragon. 🇬🇧 Peters' writhing skink (Mochlus sundevallii) Also known commonly as Peters' eyelid skink and Sundevall's writhing skink, is an endemic species to Sub-Saharan Africa. It can be found in Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Somalia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.The Reptile Database also lists Central African Republic, Sudan, and possibly South Sudan. They preferrer natural habitats at altitudes from sea level to 2,000 m. Males and females of this small skink species measure 60 to 80 mm in length. Its body is light brown to grey in colour and its body off-white. At the base of each scale is a dark spot which gives the Sundevall’s writhing skink an overall speckled look, reaching to the bottom of its tail. Skinks of the genus Mochlus are cylindrical in shape and robust. Their diet consists of small invertebrates and females lay two to six white, oval-shaped and soft-shelled eggs during the summer months. They lay them underground or in abandoned anthills. 🇵🇹 Lagartixa de Sundevall (Mochlus sundevallii) A Lagartixa de Sundevall, é uma espécie endêmica da África Subsaariana. Pode ser encontrado em Angola, Botsuana, República Democrática do Congo, Eswatini, Etiópia, Quênia, Malawi, Moçambique, Namíbia, Somália, África do Sul, Tanzânia, Uganda, Zâmbia e Zimbábue. O banco de dados de répteis também lista a República Centro-Africana, Sudão , e possivelmente no Sudão do Sul. Elas preferem habitats naturais em altitudes desde o nível do mar até 2.000 metros . Os machos e as fêmeas desta pequena espécie de lagartixa medem de 60 a 80 mm de comprimento. Seu corpo é marrom claro a cinza e seu corpo é esbranquiçado. Na base de cada escama há uma mancha escura que dá ao lagarto contorcido do Sundevall uma aparência geral salpicada, atingindo a parte inferior de sua cauda. Skinks do gênero Mochlus são de forma cilíndrica e robustos. Sua dieta consiste em pequenos invertebrados e as fêmeas colocam de dois a seis ovos brancos ovais e de casca mole durante os meses de verão. Elas os colocam no subsolo ou em formigueiros abandonados.
